Pet care experience
Hi, I’m Julie! I grew up with cats and dogs and have over 35 years of experience caring for them. I have always loved animals and view them as part of the family, not just a pet. Over the years I have taken care of neighbors’, family, and friends’ animals while they were away. Some with medical conditions, elderly, young, and reactive. I feel very comfortable with dogs of all sizes and breeds. My lapdog is 100lbs and bully breed mix that came to me from the shelter with some past trauma and strange quirks. Through patience, clear and consistent communication, positive reinforcement and allowing him the space and time to feel secure/safe, we have come a long ways in the last 3 years. I went as far as working at a dog daycare for a few months so I could get to know him better and take him to work with me each day. This helped resolve much of his abandonment/separation anxiety and I was able to learn more about him and his interactions/temperament with other dogs/people. It was a great bonding experience for both of us and a lot of fun watching him enjoy himself and gain more confidence. I also have a kitty that will be celebrating his 19th Bday next month and he’s the boss around the house. He’s an old cranky dude and very vocal letting everyone know how he wants things. I’m a Reiki practitioner and founder of COZenDogs that supports animals and their caregivers with energy work. Reiki is very calming to the nervous system and I find many animals I care for, including my own, really enjoy and benefit from it. Julie was amazing!! Our dogs were both so happy with her, and she even did some training work with them. She absolutely treated them as if they were her own and we will absolutely be working with her again. She gave frequent updates and was very flexible.
Julie was excellent! She was great with Oli, playing with him, walking even in rainy weather in the open space, and adjusting to his needs. We got detailed update and pictures. I would highly recommend her, and reach out again, if needed.

I prefer taking care of animals in their own home environment for their own comfort and security. I want to provide the best care for your pet and also maintain a balance with my own animals needs, therefore availability to be able to stay with your pet overnight or do frequent drop-in visits will need to be discussed to see what fits best for everyone’s needs. I’m very flexible and open, and will always do my best to accommodate you if it’s for the best interest of your pet. Their happiness, safety, and well being are my top priorities.

How long have you had your dog and how familiar are you with their triggers and behavior? Does your pet have any medical conditions or food allergies? How are they with other people or animals? What is your pets favorite place or fun thing to do? What commands does your dog understand? Is your dog recall trained for off-leash?
A typical day
I love to take the dogs to my favorite local trails in Lafayette, near Gunbarrel/Boulder, and Niwot/Longmont. I like to go to places where they can do lots of sniffing, there’s shade if it’s hot and where I’m used to the distance and the time it takes to complete the trails. If there is a place your dog loves to go, I’m more than happy to take them someplace familiar to them. If they love to play fetch or water games, I will do whatever makes them happy!

Availability
I work 30hrs a week in the service industry with shorter shifts and a more flexible schedule than a typical workweek for most. I don’t like leaving my animals for extended times without a potty break or walk, so the shorter shifts work very well for accommodating their needs and client needs. I will always do my best to make sure your animals are able to stay on a routine they’re used to if it allows me to also keep my own pets happy and well cared for.
