Dog lover who works from home
Pet care experience
I'm a freelance writer who works from home in Saskatoon's Haultain neighbourhood. I love dogs and have previously fostered through New Hope Dog Rescue. My flexible work schedule allows me to take frequent walks throughout the day. My husband and I love to take walks along the river with the dogs in our care if their health and energy level permits. Our fenced-in back patio is a great spot to play fetch with smaller dogs. We currently rent out our basement suite, so in order to provide a pleasant environment for our tenants, we wouldn't be able to take care of a dog that barks a lot. Please note that the $35 fee is per day, per dog, so if you plan to drop off your dog on Monday morning and pick up on Friday evening, the charge would be $35 x 5 days, as opposed to $35 x 4 nights. Thanks!

Our two mini dachshunds stayed with Julie & had no problems settling in !!! They immediately warmed up to her & made themselves quite at home ? I would definitely recommend Julie to anyone needing pet sitting !
Julie was a great help when we were in a tight spot for someone to look after Merlin last minute. Got picture updates regularly, Merlin seemed to be enjoying himself and loved that he could look out there low windows!
Excellent experience. Really appreciated the pre-visit meet and greet. Nice to receive pictures and updates during the visit. Julie was happy, Winston was happy, and I was happy...perfect!
I am sure any pet parents can relate the uneasiness that one may feel when it comes to leaving your beloved fur babies behind. That uneasy feeling never came when I leave my fur baby to Julie, our baby was so well taken care of and every stay feels more like a vacation for our pooch (Julie's house is amazingly beautiful and well kept). Simply put, Julie's worth every penny!

***Please read carefully*** We now only take dogs who are crate trained (with the exception of repeat clients whose dogs haven't had accidents in our house). The dogs we dog sit will be sleeping in their crate in our kitchen on the main level, not in our bedroom upstairs (due to allergies). Most small dogs don't even attempt to walk up our stairs to the second floor (they seem a little hesitant about the open risers). We have had challenges (ie. barking throughout the night) with dogs who sleep in their owner's bedrooms or on their owner's beds at night time. If your dog would be uncomfortable at night time if he/she isn't sleeping near us, then our house would not be a good fit. It's very important for us to avoid taking in dogs who will bark throughout the night because we have tenants renting our basement who we don't want to disturb. We have had the most success with dogs who sleep in crates. Other than that, we only take dogs who are 100% housetrained. Although we'll take them out for frequent bathroom breaks, they should be able to go 4-5 hours without needing to pee. We prefer dogs that understand basic commands and are well behaved. No breed preferences.
A typical day
We'll take frequent walks throughout Haultain, Buena Vista and Nutana, as well as walks along the river pathways, with distance depending on energy levels, health and age of your dog. We'll play fetch within enclosed/fenced in areas. Although I selected "dogs not allowed on furniture" we do make exceptions for dogs that don't shed.
