Cornell Vet Student

Pet care experience

I have owned dogs my entire life, and broadened my experience when I entered the veterinary field, first as a shelter volunteer when I was 16, and then as a kennel assistant at different animal hospitals, and finally as a veterinary student at Cornell University. I am also employed as a student technician in Cornell University Hospital for Animals Small Animal (cats and dogs) Intensive Care Unit. My training in this field allows me to administer medications, monitor your pet for any health concerns, and has generally prepared me to deal with a very wide range of animals with diverse needs. If you have animals other than cats and dogs (like reptiles and small mammals) I am able to provide care for them as well! I have raised a few puppies throughout my life and can implement your training routines when I drop in on your puppy. I am a student, so I do not pet-sit full time. I also own my own animal so I do not stay in owners' homes overnight. I can do drop in visits up to three times day. I find that this works very well for cats, and for dogs for a day or two at a time (examples: you will be gone overnight, or you have a really long workday and your dog needs dinner and a potty break). When I drop in, depending on how many visits are scheduled, I stay anywhere from 15 minutes to two hours. I am a very trustworthy pet sitter when I drop in to check on your animals. I use the animal's comfort to determine how long I should stay. If the animal is enjoying me and wanting to engage, I will stay longer. However, if I notice they are hiding/seem skittish, I usually just put down food, refresh water, and clean the litter box before heading out. I will happily play with and give your pet attention, as well as any other special things you might do for them. I am also a huge proponent of enrichment, and with your permission will incorporate this into my sitting. I track my visits with the Rover app, which allows you to see where I may have walked your dog (how far and how long), if your pet went to the bathroom, if they ate or drank in my presence (though every once in a while I do forget to press "Start" on the app, but I will still message you even if you do not receive a Rover card).

Julia was super super reliable, gave great feedback, and went above and beyond caring for our stressed, finicky kitty.

This is our 3rd time having Julia drop in on our 2 kitties while we’ve been out of town, she did a fantastic job as usual! She sent lots of pictures and was super communicative. I definitely recommend working with her!

Julia is wonderful. She asked the appropriate questions about our cats prior to her sitting. We felt really comfortable with her, and knew our cats were in good hands!

Information Julia P. would like to know about your pet

I like to know what is normal for your dog; for example - are they a good eater, are they dog reactive, do they have to wait at thresholds or before their food gets put down, are they allowed on furniture, do they receive medications and when.

A typical day

I love taking dogs on small adventures. I hike with my dog regularly and love how happy it makes her to experience different spaces and smells. I will do this for your dog too! I love going for long walks with dogs, taking them to parks and other natural areas. I frequent the Cornell Arboretum and Monkey Run with my personal dog and think they are great spaces to take dogs.
