A furry friendly home!

Pet care experience

My name is Josh, and I rescued my recently passed wonderful dog Lucy 18.5 years ago from a no-kill shelter! We moved to Denver 8 years ago from Louisville, KY, and enjoyed the dog friendly scene. Moved to Boston, MA in 2018, and my wife and I got Lucy a little brother Charles, a Boston Terrier, and now we have settled in Biddeford, ME. We are continuing to help pups here have a temporary home when needed. I am beyond excited to host dogs in my home mainly because they are joyful to be around and I also enjoy meeting new furry friends and finding out what kind of personality they have. It also makes me happy when my dog, Charles, has someone to play with or lie around the house with when we are relaxing at home. I’m very physically active and love to get out for a long hike or just a walk around the block, and I love to have a hairball companion or two on my adventures! Since moving to Maine we now have a beautiful fenced in backyard where Charles and I run around throughout the day. I love helping dogs. When I lived in KY I volunteered for 6 years at a no-kill animal shelter helping with dogs of all sizes and breeds. I worked with disabled dogs (blind, deaf, special needs) as well as dogs with behavioral issues. I think of myself as an expert when it comes to the care of your pup. My experience with the animal shelter along with growing up with multiple dogs my entire life makes me perfectly suited to pet care. We consider our own dog our best friend and we will treat yours as such! My wife and I both work from home so we are able to accommodate any schedule to keep your dog on the same routine they would have at home. We let my Charles, out around 6a, 12p, 6p, and again around 10:30p-11p before bed. Feeding twice a day in morning and at 6p. All dogs are allowed on any piece of furniture we own. In addition, if your dog is crate trained, please provide it when dropping them off as it allows them a safe space that they are familiar with in a different environment based on my experience. Lastly, if they have a blanket or toy they prefer, I recommend also leaving that, so they again have a piece of their home when staying at mine.

Joshua is great. He and his wife were able to accommodate my 9 week old puppy last minute to watch him in their home during the week. They sent pictures and kept me updated! Will for sure use him again and will recommend for anyone needing someone to watch their pup.

Our pup was very happy and well cared for. Joshua had great communication (texts, photos and videos). I would definitely recommend!

Josh was great with Leo. We appreciated all the pictures and updates. It was our first time sending him to someone outside the family to be sat and our hesitations quickly resolved with Josh’s expertise and great communication.

Josh and his wife are always wonderful to my dog! I'm so so grateful I found them and would not hesitate again to entrust them with my puppy's care. Priceless peace of mind for when I need to be away from home.

Information Joshua K. would like to know about your pet

We do not have any breed restrictions, but I am a firm believer in meet and greets. Not only is this important for my dog to get to know yours, but we want to make sure that you and your dog will truly feel comfortable with me as their temporary sitter! At the meet and greet, I will make sure to gather and write down all important information, such as vet numbers and address, feeding schedule and any medication that is necessary.

A typical day

When we care for your dog, on a typical day we would wake up early in the morning around 5:30-6a, and let them out in the yard to potty and play, then it is feeding time for both of us! Once we finish breakfast, we would watch the news to make sure we are both dressed appropriately for the weather outside and play for a while before work. During work we have as many breaks outside as needed. After work we go back out into the yard or play in the house if it’s raining. After dinner we would take another trip outside and play until bedtime if we aren't both already pooped from the busy day!
