For dogs I'm walking, I need to know how they are with other people and other dogs. Can a stranger pet your dog? Can a stranger's dog say hello? I have experience with shy and rambunctious dogs, and don't mind telling well-meaning strangers to buzz off if you need me to Other than that, I'd love to know your pet's energy level and activity goals—if I need to push them along to stay active, I can do that. If they're too rowdy and I'll need to get them to calm down, I can do that, too.
A typical day
For dogs, my approach is to let them set the pace, and lead me to the sights and smells that they want to experience. My job is to keep them safe while they do their business, and explore their space. For cats, I love the way they interact with toys and treats. Especially for younger, high-energy cats, there's no better reward than to see them get good and tuckered out, so I know they'll have a really good sleep (and leave the house peaceful for a time)
