I’m writing this review not only because I am upset at what happened, but I am concerned that Joni does not take her responsibilities of caring for other peoples pets as seriously as she should. Joni did not show up for the agreed drop in visit for my cat Stella this morning. Joni thought that the visit was supposed to be for 9 PM when it was actually for 9 AM. I’m not sure how this got mixed up because I specifically marked 9 AM on my visit request, which was agreed to by Joni. My cat Stella had only been given enough food to last her for 12 hours so if Joni had shown up at 9 PM, Stella would have gone over 24 hours without food because Joni had already shown up an hour and a half early for yesterday evening’s check in. The only reason why I learned that Joni didn’t show up this morning was because I checked my phone around noon and noticed I hadn’t received a check-in notification. I immediately reached out to Joni to confirm everything was ok but didn’t get a response for almost an hour. Fortunately, I was only a 3 hour drive away, so after not hearing back from Joni for 30 minutes, I made the call to leave my trip early to make sure Stella was fed. When Joni finally responded she said she got the time wrong and the earliest she could feed Stella was after work at 5 PM. Before using Joni the first time, I went though all the details of what was expected and there were no issues as a result. I incorrectly assumed that since Joni had checked in on Stella before, I wouldn’t need to explain everything again. And while I won’t be using Joni again, I will also make sure to verify with the every sitter going forward, regardless of how many times they’ve checked on Stella, that they understand the times they are agreeing to check on her. I also reached out to Rover support to understand what systems they have in place to try to prevent something like this from happening and their response provided zero reassurance. I really hope Joni and Rover take my feedback seriously so that this doesn’t happen to someone else’s pet.
