Experienced Dog Trainer of 10 years

Pet care experience

Please visit MontereyK9 .org for more info I have been training dogs on the Monterey Peninsula for 10 years. I am a Multi-Certified Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA, CTDI, NAODI) with a membership in both the National Association of Dog Obedience Instructors and the Association of Professional Dog Trainers. I am a proud parent of three wonderful dogs: 2 Aussies, Mia and Quinn, and a Border Collie, Zeke. Because of my experience as a trainer, I know how to handle and care for your dogs in ways most other people won't. I understand behavior, interactions between dogs, medical issues, or any other oddball circumstance that may arise under my care. You can rest easy in your vacation that your dog is being handled by a professional. Thank you!

Very satisfied at-home boarding for our dog Nemo! John was very quick to reply to questions and very communicative. We traveled to Monterey and needed last minute solution for Nemo while we went diving, and visited the aquarium. John was accommodating and comfortable to make plans with. He sent photos and updates of Nemo’s status, and when we picked up Nemo he was happy and seemed well taken care of. Highly recommended caregiver for your dog’s needs!

All I ask of your dog is to be friendly. Or at least accepting of other dogs in the house. I have 3 dogs total in my house at all times. They are herding breeds, but once your dog is in the house for a little while they don't act like herding breeds - they are fairly calm and easy-going. They are very accepting and welcoming to new dogs too. All I'd need to know about your dog is if they would be ok around my dogs. If that's the case, any dog is welcome! I DO use crates sometimes. It just depends on the dog, how trustworthy they are in the house, and if I feel comfortable with leaving them out if I have to leave for training for an hour or two. It’s a perk if they’re crate trained, but not necessary. I have PLENTY of crates at my house, but if your dog likes his/her crate, feel free to bring theirs. I just require you bring their own food. That’s all :)

A typical day

Honestly, my house is a dog house. I have a good sized, fenced yard and it’s reallt easy for dogs to get their exercise in here. I always supervise everyone while they’re out, and with my outside area I just let them all play and run around and let dogs be dogs. Every dog is different, and it’s really fun to see everyone play with each other outside and then just hangout in the house. Because of my housing situation, the freedom your dog will have, and the amount of dogs always here to play with, I don’t take many dogs out for walks. They get all the exercise they need here. Of course, sometimes I get antisocial dogs that like to keep to themselves, or older dogs that don’t like playing anymore... every now and then I feel like those kind of dogs benefit from walks instead of roaming and running around, so I’ll take them for a walk in my quiet neighborhood. Either way, expect your pup to have a good time here, especially if they like to play! My younger Aussie, Quinn, is a super social butterfly and loves to engage dogs for play. Mia, the older Aussie, is social, but also is respectful, most trained, and understands body language well. She’s been my “demo dog” for training for years. Zeke, the Border Collie, is all about toys. Fetch, frisbee, and has a “go go go” attitude when people and toys around. Honestly, he can careless about dogs. He rarely plays with dogs, and 99% of the time ignores them when they come over. He just wants a person to throw something for him, haha. When you come over for the first time, you’ll notice my dogs bark. They’re herding dogs, and they’re excited. If you stay for more than 10 minutes, it’s the calmest quietest house ever. I’m sure most people have that kind of household when company comes over. Just know that my barky dogs are super friendly - they’re just vocal and excited haha.
