Joanna, The Pet Nana
Pet care experience
I have had animals my entire life. Dogs, cats, birds, gerbils, rabbits, fish, turtles, and a tortiose. There is almost nothing that can surprise me or makes me squimish. All my animals have lived long quality lives. I have had the same veterinarian for over 25 years who could provide a reference to the quailty if my caregiving skill and care. I have had puppies that needed housebreaking and chew and general training. As my animals have aged we have provided all care that we can possibly afford that has included medical attention such as medicated bathing, pilling, liquid medication, ointments, topicals, and injections. I have had to take care of infections and abscesses from feral cat fights, and treated my cats to full recovery. I have regularly bathed from small to 70lb dogs, and have even bathed cats, including a long-haired Persian with VERY sharp claws. I have had parakeets, love birds, cockatiels, and conures. I am currently employed by a national pet lodging company. I am the afternoon doggie day camp leader several days a week. In that roll, I am alpha to a camp space holding up to 16 dogs at a time, sometimes a full mixture of small to large dogs, other times split between large to small. I have never had an uncontrolled incident while I have been in charge of camp. My responsibilities include pet engagement, refereeing play, avoiding or breaking up over-stimulated behaviors, monitoring for stress or illness, cleaning up after potty breaks, and more. I am also responsible for individual walks for special needs dogs, including the same attention as the above mentioned. I also prepare meals per pet parent instructions. I also assist in cleaning and sanitizing kennel spaces and playrooms after uses for the next series of entering dogs. I am something of a dog whisperer, and dogs flock to me for attention. Out of hundreds of dogs, there are very few, possibly one or to per hundred who I have not been able to leash or calm down.

Reviews

Joanna was wonderful. I have a new rescue dog named Zeus who is a bit of a handful. Joanna had no issues with him and made sure he was well taken care of. She was always on time and great with communication.

I highly recommend Joanna. She has been very reliable and easy to work with. I have an odd schedule and have used her to let my dog out when my days are long. I have multiple pets and she is great with all of them but one has to be caged so she comes over specifically for him. I am glad I found Joanna.
Joanna taught me how to take care of animals and treat them with respect from the time I learned how to walk. She's my mother. She also takes care of my two large breed dogs (110-lb bloodhound & 70-lb doodle) and my DSH cat whenever I am away for business and vacation. We grew up in a rural area, and my mom has always shown reverence for al life, both domestic and wild. We would set out boxes of apple peelings for deer on our property to keep the deer from crossing a highway to get to the nearby orchard for food in the winter. We rescued a wild rabbit. She has turned on her flashers and jumped out of her car in the middle of the freeway to rescue an injured cat that was thrown from another vehicle. Our home has been a forever home to feathery, furry, and scaly creatures our whole lives, several with special needs. She even shared professionally petsitting responsibilities with me when I was helping another petsitter look after her clients in a pinch. She even gets sad when a fish dies. She's a creature whisperer, and she loves all the animals that come into her life.
Joanna is a very responsible and loving pet caregiver. Max is very protective and she has spent a lot of time bonding with him and petting him. He is very fond of her. She is very patient with him and plays with him regularly. I would definitely trust her with Max and I feel she is very attentive and an excellent care giver.

Depending on the temperament of the animal and the distance to travel, I will let the pet parents decide whether they would like to have their animal board at my home, or I will visit their home. I prefer to have a first meet-up at the animals home to see if we are compatible and learn about their needs and wants. If all goes well, the next step is to come to my home to meet our animals. We have a 4-yr-old 110lb female bloodhound, a 2-yr-old 65lb male doodle, and a 18 mnth old 70lb male pittie, very gentle. All our animals are altered. We have a fenced back yard. I cared for a French Bulldog from 12/15-1/3. All went well. By the end of his three weeks, he was part of the pack, and has learned all new social skills. She came home with some jet lag, but no worries about her baby.

My schedule is currently very open. I am a part-time worker with my company, my hours have been reduced to only 4-8 per week due to lower than expected bookings. I need more work than those few hours. I am hoping I may fill a need in the pet parent community by offering my services at large.
