Dog walker who misses having a dog

Pet care experience

Hi there! Dog lover here wishing to have a dog on her own one day 🥹 I am *almost* freshly arrived to Los Angeles from Sweden and while I find a job I love, I’m available to help you with your doggies while you are out in the office. I’m originally from Mexico and always had dogs growing up. In Sweden I was also on Rover while I was studying online and me and my husband loved it since we were able to welcome dogs to our home. I require a meet & greet before I’ll watch your doggie for any length of time. During that meeting I ask the dog’s parents how they want their fur babies to be taken care of. I always ask for a list of preferences so the dog will be most at home with me or most comfortable in their own home. I am very flexible but I am also very diligent about making sure all dogs are safe when I am out with them to ensure they will not get injured or sick. My experience with dogs is quite extended. I have taken care from German Shepherds for long walks, to puppies that just need short walks. I was a dog walker/sitter for a total of almost four years in Sweden and loved it. Since I was using Rover in Sweden most of the reviews are in Swedish but I can assure you that they are all good 😊. I am mostly at home during the day so I am flexible regarding pick-up time and drop-off times, as well as walks. Overall, I would love to have a dog on my own but I can't afford one at the moment so I would be more than happy to give some love to yours.

Joana is an amazing, responsible dogsitter. I have a disable old pug and I feel relaxed when I leave my dog with her. She keeps me posted with text and pictures and she makes sure that Nena (my pug) is happy and comfortable. So glad to have found her.

Not a good fit for my dog so Rover had to help me find a new sitter mid-stay which was a very stressful situation given it was the first time I left my dog with anyone who wasn’t family/friends and I was on an international trip. I wouldn’t personally recommend Joana to my friends, but for a dog who has simpler, straight-forward care I think she could be a good fit for others looking for a sitter as long as you communicate clear preferences, boundaries and details on care instructions and stay in consistent, close communication.

Joana was absolutely amazing. My dogs are special needs and she was able to take care of them impeccably. She sent me pics and texts to let me know they were ok and I felt absolutely comfortable in living my dogs to her. So grateful.

We won the Lottery with Joana. We could not have found a more loving, caring, attentive sitter for our older dog this last week. Joana gave us updates on a daily basis and communicated with us with any issues or questions. She took care of all the meds and other needs of our baby. Joana is absolutely FANTASTIC!

Safety, trust & environment

When walking, I know that there are various factors that a dog would be attracted to (hi squirrels!) so I am constantly aware of them and avoiding any unpleasant situations. I am aware that a walk it's for the dog(s), that's why I am tolerant when walking and allowing them to smell and pee how much they need to.

Lives in an apartment
Does not have a yard
Non-smoking household
Has no pets
No children present
Dogs not allowed on bed
Dogs not allowed on furniture
Potty breaks every 4-8 hours

Information Joana S. would like to know about your pet

Need to know if they have allergies or need special attention. If they are sick or need medicines and when to take them. As well how much movement they need. Also would be great if they are allowed to be pet by strangers on our walks, specially kids ☺️(they always ask before hand anyway and I also sense if it would be a good idea)

A typical day

We would choose a stress-free environment, like walking in the park or a calm street with not that much activity. If it's a long walk, we can take it to the closest forest/beach. On Sundays we would come hiking since me and my husband enjoy discovering the hikes around the city. We usually go around 4pm once the sun is not that harsh.

I just arrived to the States so I am between jobs and quite flexible with taking lots of walks during the day. I can take short walks as often as 3 hours or long walks when it's required. Once a doggie comes for the day, I usually take them for a walk around the neighborhood first so they feel less anxious once we come back. I also provide with lots of cuddles during the day. On Sundays we usually go out on hikes in the evening so if your doggie is staying a Sunday with us, we will for sure take it on a long hike. We always go around 4pm, since we like to avoid the sun and it’s not so harsh for the doggies. We take constant water breaks so your doggie will always stay hydrated.
