Pet care experience
I have grown up around and caring for animals (of all kinds) my entire life. My background includes a degree in Animal Science from the University of Missouri, working with a nonprofit as an auditor for dog breeding/health groups, volunteering as a dog walker/socializer for the Central Missouri Humane Society, pet sitting and exercising my own family members/friends’ pets for years, and studying positive reinforcement training in and out of school.

Safety, trust & environment
The most important thing I keep in mind when caring for another individuals pet is treating them as well/ respectfully as I would want someone to treat my own pets. Attention to detail, health and safety for your pet and myself are also of the utmost importance. I will follow any and all directions given by the owner and be upfront/clearly communicate questions or concerns I may have, so your pet has the best experience possible with me! I am comfortable with feeding, watering, harnessing, walking, brushing, playing, administering medicine/ointment, waste disposal/cleaning up, etc. Additionally, I am an avid runner and would be open to discussing a safe exercise plan/routine for active dogs or dogs needing a weight loss/management program (as prescribed by a licensed veterinarian).
Information Joan K. would like to know about your pet
In my opinion, the more information the better! I am comfortable with all sizes, breeds, and age ranges of dogs. Typical information I ask for includes: Name. Age. Breed. Weight estimate. Known allergies. Medical conditions. Brief description of temperament. Current weekly exercise amount. Known likes, dislikes, fears. Commands or ones you are working on (want to make sure I use what you have taught or are currently working on!) Dog/Human socialization level and leash work skills.
A typical day
A typical day depends greatly on the interest and needs of each individual dog. Active dog? Long walks/jogs by the lake or games of fetch are on the list. Mellow senior dog? Short walks, lots of pets, car rides and maybe sitting outside a coffee shop! Nervous/Anxious dog? Walks in a spacious area and quiet time in a space they are most comfortable (with their favorite toy) are part of the plan.

Availability
I currently work in a fitness job M-F from 10:30 to 6:45pm. I enjoy waking up early and being active so morning walks or play dates are something I would love to help with. My work schedule would also allow me time to drop by clients in the evening after work. On the weekends, I have more free time and flexibility throughout the day to provide services/care and accommodate the needs of you and your furry friend.
