I grew up with my sister who has had dogs for as long as I can remember and have often done her the favor of staying at her place to dogsit while she was out of town. This included taking them out on walks, letting them out into the yard, feeding them, bathing them, cleaning up all sorts of accidents, and giving them lots of cuddles and kisses!! She has a big pitbull who likes to cuddle to sleep and a chihuahua who was almost always hidden under furniture so I'm used to both clingy and not so clingy pets. Additionally, I have my own cat!! So I'm well versed in cat language as well haha.
