I love animals and work with horses almost every day. I would love to own dogs, but I currently have 2 finicky cats who wouldn't be very happy about it. I am a freelance flutist and tutor, and my schedule is very flexible. Working with horses and owning dogs since I was a child has given me the ability to assert myself as the alpha, demanding respect while using primarily positive reinforcement. It's all about patience, recognition of unique personality traits, rewarding good behavior, and immediately acknowledging bad behavior. There's always a reason behind a dog's behavior, and I like to spend enough time with that dog to get to understand its reasoning. Dogs love structure and discipline, and when you provide those, not only their behavior but also their sense of happiness and satisfaction improve drastically.
