Vet Tech and Animal Care Specialist

Pet care experience

I’ve been volunteering at animal rescues, and fostering cats and dogs for 8 years. I currently work as a Veterinary Technician at an animal hospital, and often pet sit for the doctors at the clinic. I’m great with all pets, even ones with fear/anxiety related aggressive behavior. I have personal experience with all types of different temperaments, as well as medical, physical, and emotional needs through my professional and volunteer based work.

Jessica starting rescuing dogs as soon as she had a place to take care of them. She showers her dogs with love but at the same time they know who their Master is. She's watched our dogs for a few years now and we know they are safe and loved. If you're looking for someone with a big heart that cares deeply for dogs look no further, you've found the right gal.

Safety, trust & environment

Pet sitting will need to be at your home. If socialization is one of your goals, I have one dog who is very good with everyone and takes behavior cues from the dogs around him. I can bring him with me for walks or play dates. My other dog does not do well with dominant dogs, so bringing pets to my home is on a case by case basis. For walks I prefer a harness. If your pet gets excited, startled, or is just being ornery because a new human is walking them, it gives me more control if they try to slip out of their collar. If you don’t have one I’m more than happy to bring one with me! I will not use choke chains or prong collars for leash walks. Those are designed for training, and can cause severe trauma to the neck and throat when used improperly. The Arizona heat can be dangerous, I’m trained to observe the signs of possible heat stroke and take action accordingly if it occurs. If a walk is requested during the “red zone” I will most likely decline the request for that time and try to work out a safer time that fits you and your pets schedule. If your pet is special needs I can definitely help! I frequently house sit for a blind and arthritic dog. I am also familiar with care and treatment for pets in renal failure, heart conditions, diabetes, and more.

Information Jessica M. would like to know about your pet

I need to know any medical concerns or current conditions, abnormal or otherwise. If I’m house sitting, are there any toxic plants to look out for? Do they like to bolt out the door? Are they leash or dog reactive? What are your “do’s and don’ts”? Are there certain things that frighten or excite them? Most importantly, what do YOU expect from me for you pets if you hire me?

A typical day

Training is the best way to keep a pets brain active and happy! If you have something you’re working on I’ll help them practice those cool new tricks. On walks I let them sniff around and explore all those new and exciting smells. Letting your dog follow their nose stimulates them and will tire them out faster than going on super long walks. That said, I’m an active person with 2 large dogs at home, our walks are rarely shorter than 2 miles so the length and duration depends on you and your dogs needs. I let cats tell me what they want and when, some will play with a laser all day, while others only come out for food. I make sure that they feel comfortable and in control of their environment so they don’t stress out. Sometimes they never want me to pet them, and sometimes we end up best buds. It really depends on them.
