Peace Corps Animal Lover

Pet care experience

ABOUT ME: I graduated from UofSC and have since taken several graduate classes at The Citadel Military College. I worked for the West Columbia Mayor, the U.S. Senator of SC, and the SC Governor while studying in school. I returned home from assignment at the U. S. Embassy Peru with Top Secret USG security clearance in October 2019. I was scheduled for a March 2020 departure for the Peace Corps, however Covid altered my plans for international field work. I pivoted to green energy and now spearhead a startup company here in SC, in which I work from home. I am an absolute dog mom, and have had my own girl for 10.5 years filled with the best companionship of my life. We love to fill our space with the energy, morale, and love of other fur babies whose companionship means the world to their dog parents, too. If you're looking for a respected, responsible professional with over a decade of experience taking care of dogs; you've found your match! BOARDING DETAILS: I have a LARGE fenced in backyard with 24/7 dog door access! Additionally, I have a front yard + second dog door with limited access. We have a basket full of 30+ dog toys and tons of extra treats. The Rosewood nature trails are located just 300 ft. from the house, so we use them often to enjoy the sunshine and burn off some energy. The couches and beds are all pet friendly so we can snuggle after we're worn out from a day of play + walks. MY DOG SITTING EXPERIENCE: 5+ years of dog sitting, house sitting experience (all ages, breeds, and sizes; including special needs dogs, puppies, and seniors). I can perform any part of your pet's routine, including training, medicating, and transport. 2+ years of dog walking (including related errand running to vet office and pet store). Owned multiple dogs and cats all of my life. Veterinarian as a mother. ALL RATES ARE NEGOTIABLE. Please check out my reviews from repeat clients to see why I am rated 5 stars!

Jess was fantastic. She effortlessly gained the trust of our senior border collie mix. She maintained his comfort by seamlessly following his routine. We definitely would recommend working with Jess.

Safety, trust & environment

SAFETY, TRUST & ENVIRONMENT: The pups always have full range of the house and backyard, with both inside and outside toys. The fence is fully lined and in two years of boarding we have never had concern for an escape artist. I've seen many dogs with no prior dog-door experience get the hang of it in under a day; which they usually find fun to pop in and out of with control over their inside vs. outside time.

Information Jess H. would like to know about your pet

I only ask that you alert me to any escape artists so that I may keep a special eye on them. I usually like to have the pooches bring their own bed if they're staying overnight as a signal that they'll be sleeping over and that they always have their own, familiar space to return to. Of course they are always welcome to sleep anywhere in the house, but I find this helps them to settle into a new environment.

A typical day

We often have a pooch or two over at the house, many of which are regulars who return with a big smile on their face to welcome the new guys. On any given day, you should expect tons of opportunity for playtime with a basket filled to the brim with toys. The couches and beds are always available, blankets and throw pillows included, for a good nap. I usually have on an alternative radio station to maintain a laid-back, good energy household. On days when the weather is breezy, we leave the front door open so that the pups can watch the world go by through a (handle-locked) screen door.

MY USUAL SCHEDULE: I work from home, which allows me to spend the entire day with your pet. I have experience with drop-off times as early as 6am and pick-up times as late as 10pm. If I go to the neighborhood park or brewery in Rosewood, I'll make sure to ask if I can bring your pup along for a little field trip.
