When our last (of four) beloved dogs passed away five years ago, we were not ready to take on another for life, so we started fostering. Seventeen fabulous fosters later, we find that fostering is a commitment that can run for many months, often more than we want to be tied down for. Our own dogs went everywhere with us. Fosters need to stay in one place, So we have decided to find a more short-term way to bring dogs into our lives, depending on our availability. We love dogs, and dogs love us. Jerik, who is at home, enjoys walking the neighborhood with our charges, and I love playing and interacting with our doggy guests. We are the perfect dog-care package. Our references consist mostly of people whose dogs we fostered at one point, and who continue to use us for doggie care from time to time. We found that we have a "reputation" among Rescues, where our contact information has been shared as the couple who could deal with emergency and/or problem issues. Many of our fosters came from other foster homes where the dog could not be successfully dealt with for one reason or another. Each challenge was met, dealt with in a loving way, and eventually moved along to an appropriate adoptive home. Our best reference is the way that any of our fosters or boarders pull on their leashes when they approach our home for a visit. Our home is clearly a place of happiness and comfort for them.
