Pet care experience
From the time I was 6 years old my family has always had cats and dogs which taught me from a very young age how to care for and provide a happy, healthy life for pets. I have loved and thrived being the person in my family and friend group to pet sit, be the token dog walker, and organize dog play dates. When I was making the career switch from video editing to becoming a Firefighter, I was a hired as a dog handler and trainer at Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary because of my love of animals. There, I was responsible for the well-being, health and training of all the dogs on the premises. I worked as part of a team to ensure all dogs received multiple walks a day, performed independent training and organized play groups with all different sizes and temperaments. I was fortunate enough to train with some amazing dog trainers from all over North America, such as Brandon McMillan, Brian Kilcommons, as well as Amy Sadler and her organization Dogs Playing For Life. I also had the privilege of helping dogs from all over the world, traveling to Israel to assess and save many dogs from decrepit shelters, and foster the animals once in Canada to help them become comfortable with human interaction and prepare them for adoption. Because of my genuine love of animals and my various work experience with dogs over the years, I look very much forward to caring for your pets as my own.

I truly believe in my heart of hearts anyone would be lucky to have my brother Jeremy looking after and caring for their pets. He is without question the biggest lover of animals that I know, he’s incredibly responsible, conscientious, and completely attuned to what pets need to live their best lives. Anytime I have to go out of town and am unable to bring my 90lb Long Coat German Shepherd with me, she’s with Jeremy (or my parents when he’s on shift). I absolutely HATE being apart from my big girl, but when she’s with Jeremy my mind is completely at ease as I know she’s beyond happy and being very well taken care of. Jeremy and I have a running joke that when I come home from out of town and pick up my girl, she doesn’t actually want to leave Jeremy because she loves him so much! His vast experience with animals, both in his personal and professional life, makes him very well suited for Rover and entrusting him with the care of your pets. If you choose Jeremy to care for your fur baby, you are choosing peace of mind and the highest quality of care, attention & devotion possible.
I would trust Jeremy to watch & care for my dog or any other without question. He is incredibly calm & patient. He is very attentive & reads dogs’ cues. He anticipates what is needed & is very caring and affectionate with all animals.
Leaving your beloved pet in the care of someone else can be a terrifying experience. Ideally, the fur babies would be coming with us wherever we go - though as many of us have experienced, this can't always be the case. I can however assure you that when the pets are left in the care of Mr. Jeremy Kozelj, pet parents can enjoy a guilt free excursion knowing that the pets are hanging out with their new best friend. Having known Jeremy for almost 20 years now, I have seen him care for multiple dogs and cats overtime. I often see him exit his car with at least two happy tail-waggers in sight. And to be honest, it's strange seeing him without one. He is from a family of pet owners. And as the families grow, so do the adoption and care of pets. Whether in his own home, a walk around the neighbourhood, or swimming for the ball he threw out to them, the pets are in the best care while having fun and ultimately, being loved. His love for pets seemed to outweigh his other passions in life, as he left a career in film to pursue working in an out of town animal shelter. His hard work at Dog Tales Rescue and Sanctuary brought many dogs from abandonment and abuse to new families. He even travelled to Israel to pick up strays. It could be a love of animals, or just the size of his heart, but the care he puts into animals - his or anyone's, is truly beautiful. After all, he is a firefighter - so helping cats from trees is just the start. I have personally seen Jeremy care for and walk four dogs at once. All diverse in sizes and personalities, the dogs were cooperative and very happy. From multiple childhood pets to his new "nieces and nephews", Jeremy is a joy in the presence of any pet. My only caution is please don't be surprised when this 6'2, muscular firefighter begins speaking to your pets in a high pitched baby voice.
Jeremy and I worked together for two years at a rescue helping homeless dogs find their forever homes. We were blessed to be able to travel around to different countries helping dogs in need. Jeremy has so much compassion for animals and one of the sweetest of souls. He has a unique understanding of all dogs, the scared ones, the unsure ones even the unpredictable ones. Any family welcoming Jeremy into their home to be a part of their pets lives will not only be happy but so very thankful 😊

I have a cozy family home with a big yard. It is currently not fenced in but I will be available to go outside with your pets on a regular basis for play, games of fetch, hikes, long walks, etc - whatever is required and desired for the overall happiness, health, and well being of your dog. The inside my home is very pet friendly; very clean, well maintained, spacious, warm, bright with lots of windows, and cozy with dog beds and crates if desired. There are also very friendly family dogs in the area that can be available to play with your fur babies if they enjoy the company of other dogs.

Availability
I’m a Firefighter, so when I’m at work on my 24 hr shifts I will not be available; however, on my days off I will be available all day and night to take care of your fur babies. My shifts vary each week, but generally speaking, I will be available approximately 4-5 full days/nights a week. I would be happy to provide my exact schedule if it’s helpful.
