Animals have been a part of my life since I was an infant. We lived in New Orleans (my parents were originally from Michigan) and there were a ton of strays. My mom took in everything from the sickly dogs on the side of the road to the squirrels shot with BB guns. Every stray animal that we encountered received medical treatment and was spayed/neutered before we found appropriate homes for them. I have closely followed in her footsteps but added the element of fostering for HSHV. We have fostered animals through this organization for the past 9 years. I have also become ‘popular’ in my subdivision for being the person that will trap anything you need me to. After I trap the animals (provided they are not wildlife), I keep them until they are socialized and old enough to be adopted out. Because of my reputation, I now get random requests off of Facebook for help ‘relocating’ animals. Through the years, I’ve acquired plenty of experience giving medications, shots, bathing, clipping nails, etc. We’ve even been able to participate in the birthing process of some of our foster animals. I work from home, so my schedule is very flexible. I’m up by 6:30 and after taking my kids to school, have all day to care for your pet. My 16 year old daughter is stuck home this year as a ‘virtual learner’ and she’s always eager to play with the fur babies as well. We take our dog on daily walks. We have an unfenced yard, so we will make sure to keep pets leashed while walking or taking them outside. In addition, we will constantly supervise them inside the house. We have 2 cats and a dog, and all are friendly. Our animals are allowed to sleep with us.
