Professionally Trained Animal Lover

Pet care experience

I manage a premier dog daycare, boarding, and spa facility. I am trained and certified in reading canine body language, canine first aid, canine CPR, and more. I work with all different kinds of dogs of different size, breed, age, personality, and health condition. I have been passionate about animals my whole life. I’ve grown up with dogs, cats, hamsters, ducks, fish, etc. I also have experience with caring for farms with donkeys, horses, chickens, ducks, goats, and even infant goats that were bottle fed! On a personal level, I adopted my first dog, Bear, when I was 21. He came to me with significant trauma from abuse and neglect. He was very reactive and leash aggressive. I worked night and day with Bear to teach him love and trust. He’s come to be my proudest accomplishment. He’s a love bug who had gotten me through really dark times. If you have a reactive pet, it’s no problem for me. I know the stress and shame that can come with reactive dogs. I will do whatever it takes to make my time with your pup the most enjoyable and comfortable time possible.

My husband and I rarely leave our dogs for more than a day or so. This time we were away four plus days, and while our spoiled canines were nervous at the start, because of Jen's kindness and care, they did very well. She took note of all the little "perks" I asked her to give my girls, and was there when really needed (stomach issue). She texted and sent pics regularly, and conferred with me as necessary when one of the dogs was a bit sick. I will recommend her enthusiastically to others, and will ask for her again whenever we travel.

Jennifer looked after our car Suki for a week and a half. She was flexible with scheduling and really wonderful about accommodating us. She sent text updates and photos of our cat while we were gone, which we really appreciated. Working with Jennifer has been a delight, we’ll definitely ask her to watch Suki again when we go out of town again!

Jennifer was a perfect 1st dog sitter for me. I was worried about leaving my girl and Jennifer calmed my nerves. She visited Posey a couple times a day and walked, fed and cared for her. Posey got lucky! Thank you Jennifer!

As stated I am proficient in canine body language and canine behavior. I’ve taken extensive certification courses to be able to read heightened anxiety, fearfulness, etc. My approach with dogs is always that I will approach the dog when the dog is ready for me to approach them by constantly watching for any signs of stress or reaction towards my body language. I always keep dogs on a leash when we are outdoors. Dogs especially base their behavior off of our energy that we are giving off. A calm and confident approach is always the most successful way to handle a dog. Positive reinforcement constantly and quickly is also another very successful approach that I have had with dogs.

Information Jennifer C. would like to know about your pet

If your dog has any special needs or sensitivities to being touched in any areas; the ears or the paws are very common ones for dogs to be sensitive to. If your dog has any triggers to sounds to anything that I can’t wear like hats or hoodies. Any specific sounds that your dog doesn’t like that I should be extra mindful of like thunderstorms or fireworks so I can play calming music for them and stay with them. If your dog has any prey drive to small animals that I need to watch out for if I take them out for a walk. Any special needs like partial/full deafness or blind in one eye or fully blind. I am very experienced with blind and deaf dogs so that will not be a problem but it is very helpful to know in advance. If your dog has any sensitivities- like chicken for example is becoming a very common allergy and dogs.

A typical day

Constant interaction and engagement is so important with keeping dogs happy and busy. I love playing games with dogs like fetch, follow the leader, and even practicing recall with them and commands that they may know or teaching them new ones. I also enjoy going on hikes and walks so as long as your dog is up for an adventure I will absolutely take them for one.
