Dogs are my heart

Pet care experience

I always have a safety plan in place, which I will discuss with each client, should we need to evacuate. I will never have more dogs than can be safely evacuated in the event of an emergency First off, I’m insured with PCI (pet care insurance for boarding) for everyone’s safety and peace of mind. I’ve owned dogs my whole life. They have been my best friends and I have taken care of them through every stage of life. They give so much, that I feel it’s only right to do the best I can for them. I'm constantly trying to better my relationship with my dogs and trying to learn more. I like positive reinforcement training and follow methods from Ian Dunbar, and have also done Karen Pryor clicker training with my dogs. I've pet sat for friends at their house while they were away for longer periods of time, and I've checked in on dogs at their house. I've had dogs stay with me too. Everyone that knows me, knows I like dogs over most people.

Jennifer is an excellent dog sitter. We trust her completely with our dog Henry. She spends a lot of time playing as well as teaching while playing. He always comes home happy. We don’t go away often but if we did, we’d have Jennifer watch him again. She also gave us a beautiful watercolor painting of Henry. She is very sweet and kind.

Safety, trust & environment

I have a 6 foot wood fenced-in backyard and three dogs of my own. One is an xl dog (Newf,) and then I have 2 little dogs (Cotons.) They have plenty of space to play in and out of the house. I always check the yard to make sure its clean and there is nothing to get into. I pick up dog poo as soon as they do their business. There are tons of dog toys here from kongs, to stuffies, to crinkle and squeaky toys, to old tied up socks. Toys are disinfected after each dog leaves. I don't leave damaged toys out EVER. I pick them up and repair them or throw them out if there’s no chance of repair. I always supervise playtime and if I leave, toys are picked up for that time, and guest dogs will be safely kenneled. There is a camera in home to keep watch on the dogs while I’m running errands. If your pet likes to play with other dogs, they will be happy to play at my home. My dogs love to play, even my senior! We snuggle with any dog that wants to snuggle up on the couch and ottoman with us. If a dog needs a break, I have a puppy play pen where I place the dog to relax and unwind right in front of me. The dogs' safety and comfort are my number one priority. I will only feed the dog what you supply, unless we discuss and you are ok with me using my treats, of which I have plenty. I prefer to do a meet and greet to ensure all dogs and people are happy before actual boarding at my house. I think taking a walk in a neutral place is the best way for new dogs to be introduced with the least amount of tension. If that goes well, I like to have the dog come to my house and see how they are in the back yard, and slowly introduce my dogs again to make sure it's a good fit. A trial daycare may also be asked if the dog exhibits any signs of distress. Safety and happiness of the pet are paramount. All my years of experience with dogs has given me the insight to pick up on their body language. I'm good at knowing how a dog is feeling and I will never push a dog. I know the subtle signs a dog gives when they are stressed or uncomfortable. I treat all dogs that stay how I would want my dog treated, like an integral part of the family.

Information Jennifer C. would like to know about your pet

It is important to know if the dog is a dominant dog. If it is a resource guarder with food or toys. If it has any health issues I need to be aware of, if there is any medication or supplement that needs to be given. If you are ok with me giving my treats or only your specific treats. If your dog has separation anxiety.

A typical day

My dogs get up around 6-7am. they go outside to potty and then they come in for breakfast. After that they relax because we own a giant breed who is prone to bloat and cannot have much activity for at least an hour after eating. After that hour, they may nap or want to play in the house, or if they want to go outside, we go outside. Second potty break is around 12-1pm unless they want to go out sooner. Then we hang outside and play chase, or fetch, or jump over home-made jumps. We go inside after a bit and relax with a carrot for a snack. If they go to the door to go back out, we go back out. Dinner is 7pm. I spend about 10 minutes everyday working with each of my dogs separately. (Training is anywhere from 3pm-5pm.) My oldest dog-12 still enjoys training and received his CGC (Canine Good Citizen) award March 25, 2023. We try to do daily walks, but if we don't get to it, we spend some time playing in the fenced yard or in the house. We love keep away and chase! If there are any cool places to walk dogs that you want to share with me, we would love to check them out!

I am a stay at home dog owner. I have plenty of time to devote to caring for dogs, and that is what I do. I love training my dogs and I love the strong bond we build when we are training. Most of my time is devoted to my dogs whether is be training, grooming, couch cuddles, or what have you. I even spend time reading articles from nutrition and pet health care to life hacks on how to trim their nails! I’m available all week and can set up appropriate times that work with your schedule.
