Dog Trainer in Training

Pet care experience

Growing up my family always had dogs, and I've had my own for over 7 years now. All of my dogs are rescues with their own personalities and quirks! I'm a big advocate for rescue dogs and volunteer weekly with a local rescue group. I currently have two senior small dogs, an 8-year-old Boxer/Australian Shepard mix, and a 2-year-old pit mix. They all have varying energy levels and exercise/mental enrichment needs. I'm also currently a dog training apprentice with a local Savannah trainer. To date, I've helped train client dogs, foster dogs through training office hours with the rescue we work with, and board and train dogs from the rescue as well.

Working with dogs has always been Jenna's calling! Mother of 4 rescues her love and connection with animals is one of a kind. She's taken care of my dog Riley more times than I can count and has helped a ton with his training!

Information Jenna B. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know how I’m advanced if your dog has any allergies, fears (bikes, people, other dogs), their likes and dislikes, and the commands that they know. I’d love to set up a meet and greet beforehand as well, so your pup and I can get familiar with each other.

A typical day

My favorite game to play with my dogs is the Search Game (like scatter feeding). It's a great game to activate your dog's sense of smell (their most powerful sense), allow them to get mental exercise, and to teach them duration in the 'sit' command. In your backyard, front yard, or park setting cue your dog to the sit position. Have them hold the position as you back away and start hiding treats around the area. Once all the treats are hidden, release the pup by saying 'Search!' and the dogs will use their powerful nostrils to find all the treats! With my reactive dog, we like going to Daffin Park with our long line (15ft leash) and running around the big field. With my youngest dog Ronald, we spend more time downtown. We hang out at dog-friendly bars and restaurants, walk around Forsyth Park, and get breakfast together and Collins Quarter. My 2 senior dogs much prefer sleeping to exploring at this point, but we still get out and about. Keeping their minds and bodies active is very important as they age!

I have four dogs of my own that I care for on a daily basis. On a normal day, we take a walk in the morning and then go home for breakfast. After playing in the backyard, we do crate training and mental enrichment activities in the crate. Then they take their morning nap. In the afternoon, we go potty again and play with toys in the living room for a while. At night, we go on a longer sniffy walk around the neighborhood. If it's a fun night, we might go downtown to hang out with Dad when he gets off work! Or if it's a calm night at home, we have dinner and hang out on our place cots and learn how to decompress together. There's always a lot of snuggling involved.
