Owning six pets is not enough for Jehan Wallace and calling her a dog lover is an understatement. So far, she has owned and cared for one Chow, four pit bulls, one English bulldog, three Yorkshire Terriers, one Pug and one shar Pei. These do not include several she rescued, nursed back to good health and placed in loving homes. Jehan cares for her pets as if they were her kids. In fact, on a warm sunny day she would put any one of them in her car and go to the beach where onlookers would gaze in admiration at how she bonded with her animal friend. Her friends are also amazed at the way she attends to the dogs when in they are giving birth; in fact, she is a real mid wife in the birthing process and assists the mother in clipping the umbilical cords of the new born. Jehan is calm, patient and understanding when it comes to managing her dogs but she can also be firm and consistent in her commands. Her ability to assess potential health or behavioral problems in her dogs comes naturally. She is able to recognize signs of fatigue, hunger and thirst, and ensures her dogs are clean, comfortable and well-tended. This love for her dogs stretched beyond her animals in her home in The Bahamas, to community efforts to curtail the stray dog population through an organized rescue and spaying campaign.
