My friends and family have always told me that I'm a gentle soul. It seems that dogs agree. As Bill Murray once said, "I'm suspicious of people who don't like dogs but I trust a dog when it doesn't like a person." I like dogs so much I'd take care of them for free but I realize a second income is necessary to support how much my girlfriend eats. Growing up in Portland, my family had two Pomeranians. I dog-sat on the weekends for neighbors/family friends. I moved to New York in 2012 and quickly made friends who had two English as well as two French bulldogs. On a weekly basis, I'd spend my weekends driving four hours upstate, with the dogs in tow, at their summer house. In any given time, my landlord has 2-3 dogs (at one point she had 4). The current situation includes 2 Great Danes and an English bulldog (he is famous and lives a more lavish life than I do). So far all the dogs I've been associated with are all rescues who required a lot of positive reinforcement and attention. My proudest moment came when I trained my friend's dog 'Colby' (Pitbull Terrier) how to "close the door" by standing on his hind legs and pushing the door shut. A fair amount of treats went into that but I think my friend agrees it was worth it. I live within blocks of downtown Brooklyn and have access to all trains/buses. My schedule is flexible and weekends are most definitely welcome.
