I grew up with dogs, and I have my own dog (Pom), and I occasionally substitute for a professional dog walker. There are a few things that I feel are important in walking a dog. First, it's important to build rapport with a new dog. Second, is to keep dogs close to me on their walks to form good habits, keeping them away from other dogs with whom I do not know (and even for some I do)-as you never know what dogs trigger in each other. I am a responsible adult, who enjoys taking brisk walks and I am available throughout the day. I believe a dog needs exercise, so I understand the importance of an "exercised dog is a well-behaved dog." (Cesar Millan).
