If the dog is sociable and enjoys being around other dogs, I'd take him or her to the dog park. If not, there is always Prospect Park, where I find most dogs enjoy walking along the trails or swimming in the dog beach. Long neighborhood walks in the evening when it is cooler. A quieter, perhaps older dog may like sitting beside me while I read. A more energetic dog calls for play time (fetch! running! walks!). Plenty of tummy rubs all around, old or young.
