Pet care experience

I'm a Rover convert who has had a good experience with my dog, Lucky, being watched by others. So, here I am on the other side. I have cared for spaniels, doodles, dachshunds, and pugs ranging from 6-month-old pups to 15-year-olds. It's a treat for both of us because Lucky gets some one-on-one time with a friend and I get to watch him have some social time without the stress that can accompany a dog park. We're located in the Logan Circle neighborhood. Close to Logan and Thomas Circle. Close to the S Street and Shaw dog parks. In the middle of very walkable neighborhoods and side-streets. *A note on puppies that aren't trained or housebroken* These are some of the funnest and sweetest to keep. Still, I do charge a little more ($5-$10) to account for additional walks, accidents, and clean up. Depending on your puppy profile, I will either raise this concern in the first text exchange or in-person during a meet-and-greet. The other thing I'll note is that we do live in an apartment building. So, barking is a huge concern. To date, I haven't had too many issues but if you know this is an issue, I'm happy to discuss house sitting. Same goes for teething, etc. At the end of the day, I know the feeling of a pet-owner who just wants to find a safe, reliable place for their dog while they are away. That's what I try to offer. :-)

Jarrid was wonderful with our young puppy (3.5 months). He took him on several adventures around the neighborhood where our pup could smell new sights and hear new sounds. Jarrid completely assuaged our concerns about leaving the puppy with someone new for the first time. I highly recommend him!

Jarrid is a great dog sitter! Our 7 year old dog Mitzie stayed with him and his dog Lucky for a week over the holidays. He was very communicative and clearly loves dogs. We would definitely ask Jarrid to watch her again.

Jarrid did a good job when he showed up to watch my cat, but one of the 3 days he was supposed to go he messaged me that he couldn't make it and promised to go the next morning and PM to make up for it. Around noon the next day he still had not checked in on my cat and he went almost 48 hours without a drop in despite having paid for once day. I would absolutely not recommend hiring Jarrid as I don't think any sitter on Rover should be missing a day

After I sat with my dog in the park for 30 minutes and decided to leave, he called and said he had to work late and had forgotten about our appointment. When I said reliability was a key factor when selecting a dog sitter, he reacted angrily as if I was out of line - how dare I be critical. He texted afterward saying he was sorry but he had been “under some pretty frustrating circumstances at work” and said, “still, (it) shouldn’t be taken out on my puppy clients.” I decided to give him another shot. We met the next day. He seemed very caring and his dog Lucky was awesome. I told him my dog was elderly and had some special needs. He assured me he loved dogs and all would be good. I booked a 10-day stay with him over Christmas 2018. Three weeks beforehand, I asked if he wanted to do a test night with my dog, Nicolas, and said I would be OK either way. He said no - he was traveling then starting a new job. I dropped off Nicolas December 18 - Jarrid met us outside his apt building at 9pm and scurried inside. I didn’t think anything of it until later. I didn’t hear anything until the next night - and only after I texted asking if everything was OK. He replied, “hey there, yep he’s doing good.” But 28 hours later, in the middle of the night at 1am, he texted again saying that my dog coughed too loudly and his sleep was being “impacted” but because I had told him about the coughing beforehand, he was “trying to take it in stride.” Still, he said he wanted to switch our booking halfway through and take Nicolas to my apartment and he would visit once a day. Never mind that my dog needs three walks a day or that he’s elderly and needs someone with him through the night. And never mind that I was 1,000 miles away. He also revealed for the FIRST TIME that he lived in a STUDIO apartment, and along with my dog and his, he had agreed to take on a third dog that week. Three dogs in a studio apartment! I was now stuck, I couldn’t come home, I couldn’t agree to drop-ins at my apartment. All I could do was beg him please to take care of Nicolas. I had cut my trip short from 10 days to seven. He said OK. He also pledged to stay in touch via text and send pics. But still, I didn’t hear from him until two days later. It was horrible. I checked my phone hourly waiting for word on my dog and got nothing. I was scared if I reached out, he would say he was giving up and couldn’t care for him any more. It felt like Jarrid was doing it on purpose, keeping me in limbo to make up for whatever difficulties he was having with Nicolas. It ruined my vacation. Jarrid in our interactions was immature, impatient, selfish and greedy. At the same time he agreed to keep caring for Nicolas, he asked if I would pay $30 more in a special fee because of the trouble he was going to to care for my dog. I agreed of course and volunteered that I would pay more than that - what was I to say when he had my dog basically hostage. He told me he had done the same to other dog owners - charged them an extra fee midway through their booking because of the extra work involved. He then didn’t adjust my shortened stay in Rover for four days - until the day I was supposed to pick Nicolas up - meaning I was then charged a cancellation fee of $41 plus an extra day for $41. When I picked Nicolas up and explained the problems with the extra $82 because of the delay, he said “if you’re not happy whatever.” He said he was already yelled at by a couple of other rover people, had pressures at his new job, his mother has had tumors in her brain for two years and he runs around all the time dog and cat sitting. He then said “I’m over it” and walked away. In the end in my opinion, Jarrid is too self-involved to be a good, reliable pet sitter. Maybe in a few years when he grows up and realizes he is being paid as an employee to provide a service, not doing someone a favor. And he needs to provide that service regardless of what’s going on with his sleep or his job(s) and he needs to be honest about his living circumstances and not take on three dogs in a studio - one elderly with special needs - and then complain about it.
