Retired ER doctor + TLC = "Dr. Mom"

Pet care experience

Are you looking for peace of mind when you travel and have to leave your fur baby behind? Is your precious pup on medication and/or a senior? Relax, you've just found Dr. Mom's Pet Services. For the past 8 years, I've cared for all types of dogs, of all ages. Some have had significant medical problems, requiring multiple medications. Most have been perfectly healthy! Your furry family member will benefit from my lifelong love of dogs and my desire to care for others. In addition, my senior rescue dog and "business associate," Theo, will provide mellow, friendly, and non-threatening companionship. My medical background and helpful training from Theo's vet and her staff have given me the ability to administer all types of medications: pills, suppositories, insulin shots, nebulizer treatments, eye/ear drops, intramuscular injections, etc. Reading monthly newsletters from Tufts and Cornell Veterinary Schools have helped me learn useful pointers with regards to your furry friend.. However, if your pooch does require medical treatment, I will bring them to their vet or nearest veterinary emergency hospital.

Jan is a treasure. The care she has taken with my labradoodle Cora is nothing short of amazing. She truly cares about making dogs happy and comfortable. She didn’t just walk Cora on time each day, she changed up the walks to make Cora’s walk time interesting. She played with her and fed her well. Jan takes great pride in the high level of care she gives to the pets who are entrusted to her. She appreciates that your pet is precious to you and she takes the trust you place in her seriously. Honestly, I am blessed to have found her. Thank you, Jan, for being such a kind and wonderful person!

Zack had only been left with family in our home prior to Jan staying with him. We had a brief meet and greet prior to leaving him and instantly knew he was in the best hands. We were updated throughout out trip. He bonded with her well and was a very happy pup. We will definitely use Jan for all our puppy sitting needs. The BEST experience.

Safety, trust & environment

I believe only in positive reinforcement. I took my daughter's pitbull through all 18 weeks of training at a local pet supply company, so I am comfortable keeping a dog safe. I've studied dog behavior videos to learn the warning signs of an aggressive dog. I apply this when we go for walks. If your pooch is staying with Theo and me, it will have access to the couch and the bed. I live in a 55+ community in a first-floor condo with a screened-in porch. Our neighborhood is quiet and I do all the dog walks on the property. If we're staying at your home, we'll abide by your rules.

Information Jan M. would like to know about your pet

I ask about medical issues and if the pet needs medication(s) administered while I'm taking care of them. Through the teachings of my veterinarian and with my 30+ years of ER experience, I am proficient in administering: Insulin injections, eye and ear drops, Pills, capsules, suppositories, ointments, and nebulizer treatments. I also ask about behavioral issues such as resource guarding of food, toys, etc. Knowing how the dog responds on walks to other people and/or other dogs, is also of concern to me. I'm interested in replicating the dog's daily routine as much as possible to give them comfort while their pet parents are away.

A typical day

Whether I'm watching your pet and your home, or just your pet, our together time will be filled with going for walks, playing fetch, getting a belly rub, and cuddling. I love to talk to your fur baby, knowing that they respond well to a higher-pitched, gentle voice.
