Learning about a dog's fears & pleasures is important. What excites it, what calms it---how it best receives praise, petting & treats. Does it like other animals-is it prone to aggression or submission---How is it around children, vehicles? etc. Does it have any ailments or physical limitations that I should be aware of. Is it hard of hearing, on a special diet etc. Every character detail is important in gaining a dogs trust & friendship.

Depending on where each dog lives & the lifestyle it is accustomed to, I am happiest walking on trails or sidewalks away from busy streets. A good time can be had playing catch with Frisbees, balls or sticks, swimming @ the lake or beach with dogs that enjoy that kind of thing. Otherwise a gentle walk for the senior or less active pet is a nice way to spend outdoors in the fresh air.
