My family currently has 4 dogs themselves, a blue heeler beagle mix, an australian shepherd mix, and two little shaggy dogs of indeterminate genetics. I helped my mother breed and raise Boxer pups for 4 years until her old girl retired, which involved helping change bedding, clean them, and eventually work to wean them up until they were 8 weeks old. I am acquaintances with a man who owns a pet store and have helped him out on occasion cleaning and feeding the animals. We have pet sat for our elderly family members the last two years while they were out of state overseeing my great uncle who was bedridden. This involved taking care of their two dogs, cat, bird aviary, and fish pond in sometimes freezing temperatures.
