Animal Behaviorist with 💜

Pet care experience

Hi, im Jacci! I am a very particular kind of pet sitter for a very particular kind of dog, and I might be just the person you’ve been looking for. I am an independent behavioral consultant, and I work with dogs and their parents to get past separation anxiety, fear, trauma, and other behavioral quirks that keep you from being able to leave your beloved hairy baby alone with me while you are out of town, without guilt or concern. This is a slow process and depends upon when your sweet baby is ready and only when they are ready to move on to the next step. I suggest booking 2-3 months in advance because every dog is different and we respect their place and not ours. We do as many sessions as it takes for your love bug to feel safe and comfortable with you gone and me caring for them. It's simple: I have the perfect mix of professional expertise, a lifetime of hands-on experience, and a heart full of love for hairy four-pawed companions. I've got the medical and animal science know-how to understand what makes your furry friend tick, alongside years of experience working with and being totally obsessed with dogs. Think of me as the cool, fun aunt or uncle for your furry family member. I get dogs. I love their sloppy kisses, over-the-top hellos, and even their curious nose boops in places that make us blush. It's all part of their charm! And when it comes to behavior, I'm all about trying to hear what they are saying and respecting that. I have seen it all. Please don’t be worried that I will think your dog is “bad.” They are not. Something happened to cause the fear response and I’m here for you to help you with figuring out how to mange it so you both can have lives a little more joyful and breathe a little easier. I’m not here to judge and I love them all the same. It might take some time but I am all about getting to know your pet's unique personality and needs to ensure they have the best time with me. I expect lots of doggy cuddles, and I will do happy dances with them. I will treat your canine family like my own, and by hiring me you are getting a seasoned professional animal lover who can pick up on what your pet needs from me. I will always listen to what you have to tell me to make your furball the happiest he or she can be while you are away and I am responsible for walking or caring for your love bug. I am also the third-time consecutive Winner of the Prestigious A+ Super Cuddler Award, bestowed upon me by the Global Guild of Spoiled Pets. *NOTE: I have two dogs, and they’re both on oral meds for fleas and ticks (the most effective treatment available), heartworm medication, and their shots and wellness visits are up to date. I know I am coming to you, but this is to ease any anxiety that I could be carrying an errant flea or other pathogen into your home and disrupting your ecosystem! And yes, I make sure that I make enough time to go home to make sure my family feels loved as much as yours! * I've had many rescue dogs, each with their own touching story of how we found each other. These experiences taught me how to handle anything, from severe and emergent health scares to thunderstorm jitters. With a lifetime of rescuing and caring for dogs with all sorts of backgrounds and needs, I'm equipped to handle just about anything – pups with special medical needs, those recovering from illness or surgery, those in need of specially administered drugs, those with paralysis or other issues—I got it. I have been through the thick and thin of pet care, from managing chronic terminal conditions, working with aggression, scary emergencies, dementia, and PTSD, separation anxiety, herding in an escapee FAST, and soothing a post-Fourth of July traumatized friend. I am a battle-tested pro ready to provide the level of insane love and care I have always given my own dogs over the years. Boring but important stuff. I am an applied animal behaviorist with an MS in behavioral neuroscience and 4 years of experience in animal behavioral research. I worked for a dog training guru, Linda Goodman, during college, where I fell in love with being a pet mom and a dog behavioral specialist and trainer. I learned that to be good at any of the things that are on my list of services, you first need to learn to dog. I am certified in dog behavior and training through Dr. Ian Dunbar's Sirius Dog Training Academy. I am dog first aid and CPR certified. I am learning about dog behavior, psychology, training, development, breed and genetics, nutrition, and health-related not only to be a better pet sitter and trainer, but to pass the exam to earn the CPDT-KA (Certified Professional Dog Trainer Knowledge Assessment) credential, issued by the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, the next time it is offered in the fall. I am a member of the Animal Behavior Society, a professional society dedicated to keeping up with the latest scientific research and findings in animal behavior, and I'm part of the Whole Dog Journal community, filled with dog lovers and experts from all over the world covering not just behavior and training, but also nutrition, breed-specific information, mental and physical health, chronic and acute illness, special topics, and just great everyday tips and general information to foster better communication between humans and dogs and make sure we attend to their holistic needs to help keep them healthy and whole. Random Flexes (it all adds to what I do): I am a member of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and a section reviewer for speakers and workshops in the medical and political sciences for the 2025 Science meeting! I slowly finishing up a first-author paper to submit to a scholarly journal on my neuroscience research. I hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree and I realized after two years of residency that medicine was not for me.

Jacqueline is a joy to book with. She takes the job seriously which is hard to find. She has a great attitude and is very communicative. I would recommend for anyone looking for a piece of mind while being away from your fur baby. She will love your pet as her own and that’s all you can ask for out of a sitter.

I have used Jacqueline as my main dog walker for sometime now so when I had to go out of town there was no question in my mind that she would be my sitter. I made the right choice. Communication was fantastic as always and the picture updates let me know my furry princes was safe and loved. I wish I could give more stars because Jacqueline is just the best.

Overall an amazing experience. Made my life 10x easier without having to worry about my little guy. She sent pictures, plenty of updates throughout the time, and did everything asked of her and beyond! First time using Rover and will not be my last thanks to Jacqueline. 10/10 and will be using her as much as possible when I’m out of town!

Jacci was my mentor when she was in grad school. She watched Helios and Ganymede, my two cats, whenever me and Chris went out of town. This lady was working 14 hours and drove 30 minutes out of her way twice a day to make sure our cats were fed, the litter was spotless, their water fountain was filled the way they liked it, and she'd stay until like midnight so they had company. Helios hates everyone and he'd hang out with her. She has a way with animals, you can tell she loves them and they love her. Plus, she is super dependable and responsible and will go out of her way for you and your pet.

When I first meet you to prepare to care for your pet(s) in your home, it may seem like I am super annoying and I ask a lot of questions. I will ask you to fill out an online info form. I always INSIST we meet up, and I take some time to get to know you and your dog or cat a little bit, prior to sitting, and we can even go on a short walk. It's integral to discuss your expectations from me so that I understand and there are no gaps in communication. I want to create a safe and loving space for your pal as close to normal as possible, so please let me know anything and everything! Favorite toys, games, walking routes, how much affection is preferred, food, water, medication, anxieties, meds, anything to look out for (PLEASE TELL ME SPECIFICS), and any quirks or preferences you and your furry friend may have. I was an MD and then a neuroscientist/animal behaviorist trained in animal first aid, behavior, and safety, as well as dog training (operant conditioning, click-treat, positive reinforcement strategies) so you can rest assured that with the knowledge you provide me and the time your pet and I have to become acquainted, you will have the highest quality safety, care, lotsa love, and I will take responsibility of your pet as if he/she was my own. Let me know if he or she is allowed on furniture if a cat if they are inside only, and all the details about feeding and potty time. I always keep dogs tightly on a leash when I am walking them. I can send regular pics and videos. Please let me know emergency info should anything unexpected happen, how to get ahold of you or another contact, and which vet to call.

Information Jacqueline N. would like to know about your pet

I will do an hour call with you plus a 1-2 hour consultation before we start work together. This is a flat $50 fee and includes texts, emails, as well as calls forever! It will take me up to a week to think about what I’ve learned from your pup, do some research, and come up with a plan and proposal. We can talk it over and get started if you agree, or modify it if there is something that we find doesn’t work for you. Behavioral sessions are $100 per session and last 1-2 hours. There is flexibility here if I think we should do more sessions per week than one and we always work together and let your. Dog be our guide.

A typical day

This will depend on their preferences, not mine! I will respect their boundaries and watch out for what they think is and isn’t okay when we play or walk.

Dog Sitting: Expect that I will stay the night at your home, but my schedule will vary depending on what I have arranged to do for that day. You can always expect that a morning meal and walk and an evening meal and walk will be provided. I will usually be back to your home by 6PM, I do not go out and party. Nobody else but me will be in. Your home. There are days that I can work remotely, days where I am doing consults, and other days I will be working. The the longest I would be away at one time is around 6 hours. I also make sure to check in at home for a couple of hours a few times a week to give my own pets my undivided love and attention. I do not stay at your home 100% of the time. It is just as if I were living at my own home, with a few adjustments here and there so your dog's needs are prioritized. When I am home at night, I am always sure to be attentive and extra loving, because I know it's hard that the family is away, and they need reassurance. I look out for the signs of separation anxiety or fear and do as much as I can to ensure it is eased if it does pop up again, and we will have silly playtime and lots of cuddles.
