K9Trainer/VetTech/Sitter/22yrs exp.

Pet care experience

Thank you for taking the time to learn about my background and why your beloved pet will ALWAYS be in excellent hands with me! I have over 22 years of experience as a canine behavioralist/trainer and handler with many specializations, some of which include: high-level obedience, trailing/tracking, search & rescue, defensive training, odor detection, canine actor training and handling, law enforcement K9 training, the proper raising of puppies, problem-solving, complex temperament issues such as anxiety and aggression, leash and collar-free control, and enhancing human-dog communication, among others. I also train and compete in a variety of dog sports with my own German Shepherd Dogs. I am very confident in my ability (along with over 2 decades experience) to handle dogs of all shapes, sizes, and temperaments. Using the knowledge gained throughout the duration of my experience with dogs, including behavioral assessments/evaluations, private training sessions, competition training and participation, Vet Tech work, and the conditioning, grooming, and handling of show dogs, among many other ventures, I've developed the skills & abilities to interpret an individual dog's body language along with a wide spectrum of other behavioral cues that help me to determine the best of many potential methods of reaching out and connecting with a dog and sending clear signals of communication to reassure him/her that I mean no harm and wish to engage only in friendly behavior. My training/handling methods for pet dogs are firmly rooted in the belief that Positive Reinforcement is the best method to keep a dog happy, interested, and as such, able to learn at a fast pace. In addition to training, handling, and behavioral study and evaluation, I have had nearly four years experience as a Veterinary Technician, as well as the sole Management of a boarding kennel (over 3 years) as one of my first jobs. In the earlier years of my life working with dogs, I've also worked as an apprentice for several professional handlers as well as a number of professional trainers. I have many more examples of my experience with animals, most especially dogs, over the years, but I wanted to highlight some in particular for the purpose of ensuring anyone reading that I am completely confident in my abilities which are backed by decades of both education and hands-on work, and I have a true passion for dogs and their care, well-being, and health. As I have been doing so as the primary focus in my life for as long as I have now, I believe I am a particularly outstanding candidate to be considered for the vital responsibility of providing top-notch care, support, and handling to your beloved pet or pets, and it would additionally be a pleasure of mine to do so! You are more than welcome to contact me personally if you have any questions or concerns you'd like to discuss, or if you would like any further information regarding any part of my background and/or experience. I sincerely appreciate your consideration and would very much look forward to meeting with you and your pet(s!) Thanks so much for your time!

Jackie takes great care of my dogs whenever I need her. For over ten years she has been a trusted sitter in my own home when I have to be away, will stop by the house if I have a long day at work to refresh food and water and walk my dogs, grooms and trims their nails whenever needed, and provides me with training assistance anytime I've asked. I really like her enthusiasm in her work and her experience definitely speaks for itself! I'm very happy to know that I have someone I trust completely to be there for my dogs and give them all the care and love they deserve whenever I can't be! I'd recommend Jackie's pet care to anyone and she is the only one I trust to watch over my home and my babies!

Jackie did an outstanding job with Lambert. He had a very friendly environment to stay in. We were so glad to find Jackie. She’s very knowledgeable about dogs and their needs. Our Lambert is glad to be home and we’re glad that he stayed at Jackie’s home.

Jacqueline is an extremely hands on pet handler which probably comes for her love of animals. She is conscientious and caring and would know what to do if a problem arose while in her care. I trust her with my dogs and they are my babies. You should too. You’ll be glad you did.

Information Jacqueline H. would like to know about your pet

Honestly, I'd like to know as much as there is to know! The more knowledge I have about your dog, the better I can provide for his/her needs. You won't need to worry about thinking over all these aspects on your own as I will have a detailed and extensive form consisting of important information about your pet that I will complete while interviewing you about your pet during a Meet & Greet, or upon the first day of sitting/boarding. As far as breed preferences, I have a particularly long history handling/training large, powerful breeds like German Shepherd Dogs, Belgian Malinois, Rottweilers, Dutch Shepherds, Doberman Pinschers, various Bully breeds, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Giant Schnauzers, Akitas, Chow Chows, Boxers, and Mastiffs. Additionally, I have handled and shown many various breeds such as Irish Setters, Siberian Huskies, German Shorthaired Pointers, Bouviers, Standard Poodles, Golden Retrievers, Whippets, Shar-Peis, Shiba Inus, Labrador Retrievers, Pembroke and Cardigan Welsh Corgis, and Miniature Pinschers. However, that fact is simply due to the amount of experience I have with training and handling working and competitive dogs which include many of these breeds. Please understand however, that not only those types/breeds of dogs are welcome; I love and have a great deal of experience with ALL dogs, mixed breeds included! I also have a detailed questionnaire that will help me to best understand and get to know your pup from the very start in a wide variety of aspects! Additionally, any special care or handling instructions from the pet parent will be strictly obeyed by myself!

A typical day

***First I'd like to note: Despite living south of Pittsburgh, I'm more than happy to provide pickup & dropoff transport service to pets living anywhere within a 30 mile radius of my home (I can also be flexible if it's not much farther.) So please don't let distance be a concern, as I don't mind the traveling at all! To be able to live on a spacious and private property makes driving in and around Pittsburgh both necessary and worth it!*** The back seat of my vehicle is specially modified for canine transport! Installed is a high-strength hammock-like device surrounding and protecting any size dog on all sides, mimicking the backseat of a K9 patrol vehicle. It locks onto and into many points throughout the full back seat frame, so can provide all the safety of a crate and encloses the pup entirely within the padded area to prevent injury and provide maximum comfort. I can therefore ensure safe and reliable transport service for pickups and drop-offs. ♡Your Pet's Stay With Me or My Sitting With Them♡ -My husband and myself are the homeowners here, (I will be the pups' main caregiver however, as my husband works out of the home) and choose to accept only one guest at any given time (exceptions can be made for 2 dogs in the same family) to reassure pet parents that their pup will get the 24/7 caring and attention they deserve! They will be secure and supervised, accompanied by myself at ALL times outdoors, and live indoors as a loved house-pet, enjoying the company and comforts of home rather than confinement in a chain-link concrete run as seen in many typical boarding kennels. -Your pup will be given potty breaks as needed, taken on 30 minute walks at the pace they feel most comfortable at least twice daily, with water breaks and owner-approved treats included. You may leave a leash and collar or harness you wish to be used, or if you choose, we have walking equipment to fit every size which your dog is welcome to borrow for their stay! Should you choose the option of our equipment, I walk using a 4 to 6 foot extra strength flat leash with clip paired with either a comfortable flat buckle collar or harness, whichever is your preference. I walk with a pouch for treats and squeaker toys as rewards, and a clip-on bottle of fresh water with collapsible dish. Your pet's safety and protection are my highest priorities. -You may choose to provide food and treats for your dog's stay, which will be given exactly as you direct. You may also choose to have food provided if your pup has no food allergies or sensitivities. The brand and type will be discussed with you during the booking process to ensure approval. -I am capable of administering medication of any kind (vet tech skills) and will do so on a precise schedule as directed. -Your pet will be given plenty of love, attention, and entertainment day and night, since I am home full-time, and do not have children (of the human variety, lol!) -My home is 100% smoke-free and equipped with all necessary safety features in case of an emergency. -I have a live camera running 24/7 with the ability to record (including in dim or dark conditions,) zoom in, pan around the room, and move up and down connected to my cell phone which controls these options. It also has a "movement and sound alarm" which will alert me with a notification, and a two-way microphone and speaker allowing me to both hear as well as speak to your dog through the system. In the event that I should need to be away for a short time, your dog will absolutely be in a secure situation and this camera will be active and allow me to monitor your dog at any time I wish from wherever I am, so you can rest assured that even if I should need to leave my home, I will return as quickly as possible and still be able to monitor your dog during my short absence. -With your permission only, I enjoy providing "field trips" during your dog's stay (with use of my specially-equipped vehicle) which could include places such as: city & county parks, natural areas like trails and lakes/streams, hikes, pet store visits, and even owners' special requests. -At my home we have just over two acres of property surrounded by many more acres of natural wooded land (great for nature hikes right from our door!) and we do have a large, private yard for exercise and entertainment such as fetch, mini agility courses, hide & seek (the foundation of search and rescue training,) and a plethora of dog training toys and equipment designed to bring out their enthusiasm and keep them occupied and having fun! They are also welcome to simply relax and enjoy the outdoors with me if they choose! -On-site, we have a large, secure, fenced-in play yard, where your dog will be free to take part in any of the above activities off-leash (but ALWAYS FULLY supervised!) -To ensure your peace of mind while away, you will receive regular updates from me and photos/video clips of your pup's visit or home-sitting if desired through whatever form of communication is most convenient for you. -When your pup is scheduled to go home, baths and brush-outs are available, and he/she will be provided with a "report card" with full details of the length of their stay for their pet parents to keep. To conclude, if your pet is my responsibility, it is my most important job to ensure that not only are they always safe, healthy, secure and supervised, but also that they receive the mental and social interaction from which dogs thrive. I do this because I truly love dogs, and I have all my life. My top two priorities on which I've based all that I do are the following: 1) My work is never complete, and I will not be finished until I am 100% certain that an individual pet's needs have been met entirely, and he/she is in excellent physical, emotional, and mental condition. 2) I will, at all times, treat and care for your pet(s) as if they were my very own.
