Welcome to our dog friendly farm!

Pet care experience

We live on a 140 acre horse farm......about a dozen horses, 4 dogs and 2 cats share the property and our lives. For many years we've been the "go to" place for several of our friends' dogs when they need to be out of town.....from an overnight to a month - or even longer in one case! We treat your dog as our own - lots of walks, playtime and tummy rubs! Our home is very simple and dog friendly and our style is pretty easy going and no nonsense. The horse business has been our profession ever since our colllege days (30 years ago) and dogs have been a part of our lives all of our lives......so we're pretty well seasoned and unflappable when it comes to all of the surprises and challenges that come along with each animal! Animals are one of our life's passions!

About my yard Since we're on a farm, there's 140 acres of land surrounding my house! Your dog would be walking, on leash, through the fields, by the stream and in the woods. I have a large horse paddock connecting to my backyard that I also use for doggie play time at times, though only with supervision.

Information Jackie R. would like to know about your pet

I would definitely want to know if a dog has aggressive tendencies or problems with other animals. Ideally, I'd like to meet the dog, either on his/her own turf or at my farm. It's a given that each dog who visits needs to be up to date on immunizations and on a regular, consistent flea/tick protocol (Frontline, etc). I really haven't met the dog yet (concerning breed preferences) that I can't fall in love with......so no breed preferences. For the past several years I've had a collie, an American bulldog mix, a lab mix and a small who-knows-what mix.....all four are rescue dogs. Previously I've shared my life with a Corgi, a Golden Retriever, a Dalmatian.....and a few other dogs who were mixed breed.

A typical day

Here's where we'll take our walks All around the property (140 acres). Fields, hills, a stream, woods....there is a dog park approximately 8 minutes from my house.....but my farm basically IS a dog park, so I've never been there! Your dog's sleeping arrangement Wherever he/she wants! I don't crate any of my own dogs, but if that's what your dog is used to, that's fine. Otherwise I'd allow your dog to sleep in my bedroom with a "buddy dog"......or on his own if having a buddy isn't his thing! Time I'll spend with your dog I work here on the farm and so I am available a LOT of the day! Time with each dog would depend on whether or not a dog could be happily paired up with one of my dogs.....every dog in my care gets at least 4 or 5 personal walks/playtime per day. With four dogs of my own, I'm very comfortable with rotating dogs throughout the flow of the day.

Why I love dog sitting My first memories of life included the family dogs, growing up on a large farm in the Midwest. I guess my passion for rescue dogs was imprinted upon me from toddlerhood.....when an absolutely wonderful dog named Pup (how original, I know!) wandered into our farm and claimed us as his own. Pup was the first of many more "lost dogs" to find a way into my heart and my home. The only time in my life I've lived without a dog was my college years, so I think it's confirmed: I'm a dog person! Blessedly, our life on a horse farm has accommodated our love for dogs beautifully through the years! I'm a farm girl at heart and my love for all of God's creatures brings a whole lot of delight and joy into my days.
