Non-practising vet in need of animal company!
Pet care experience
Hello I'm Jackie! Dogs are my whole life. Before I owned my own dogs when I was younger I was always going round to neighbours to walk their dogs for them. I then owned dogs for 15 years; mainly german shepherd crossbreeds and a great Dane! Some of the best times I have had has been going on adventures just myself and a dog. Unfortunately I don't have my own dog just now as mine have all passed away recently and I am not ready for another just yet so I am more than happy to surround myself with other people's beautiful pooches! I adore and appreciate all dogs big or small, young or old and can assure you that your dog will be spoiled with love when in my care. Because of my passion for all animals I pursued a career in veterinary medicine. I am a fully qualified vet with experience of working with all animals for the past 15 years. I am currently not practising due to the emotional weight of the job and losing all my pets in a short space of time however I am still keen to work with animals. Please note that I cannot currently offer any veterinary advice whilst not practising, however, because of my previous training I am able to properly administer any medications required whether it is temporary or life-long medications (eg. insulin, pain meds, heart meds) and I am trained in first aid/CPR. I would also be suitable to care for a dog post surgery. I am happy to perform any required daily physiotherapies and I am obviously aware of signs of disease or distress so in the unfortunate event that your pet may be out of sorts whilst in my care I would act appropriatly and seek veterinary attention. I am responsible and can appreciate the various needs of every dog. Whether they require long walks, short walks or quiet and enclosed areas. I will only have your dog off the leash if you say it's okay. If your dog has any strict dietary requirements I completely understand the importance of sticking to these diets (2 of my dogs had food allergies). I am happy to practice any ongoing training through positive reinforcement should you be working on anything specific! I am patient with nervous dogs and respect their individual behavioural needs. I usually walk up in the glennifer braes country park or barshaw park, however if you live further from here I would usually chose somewhere similar to this. I will mainly walk one household of dogs at a time but if your dog is happy to have company I would consider walking with another dog. Also happy to house/pet sit for cats/small animals and have previously owned 2 lovely house rabbits. This can be arranged in your own home as a drop in service or house sitting. I am very snap happy with pets so will be keeping in touch with photos/videos and frequent updates for the duration of their stay! Happy to meet and see how your pet warms to me. The ginger dog in the photos is Nemo, my parents miniature labradoodle. The rest of the photos are my old dogs and the places I used to go with them around Scotland!
Reviews
Jackie has walked our dog quite a few times now and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her. She has always been very reliable and punctual and our pup always comes back contented from a good walk with her. The detailed report cards make my day and it’s clear to see Jackie really cares for the dogs in her care.
As this was our first time using Rover, we were apprehensive as Buzz can be a little nervous with new people. However, within minutes of meeting, Jackie had Buzz on side with her caring and patient manner. Jackie kept us up to date with plenty of photos of Buzz whilst out on his walk, easing our worries immediately. When Jackie returned the following day, Buzz greeted her like he had always known her. We will defintely be using Jackie again!
Had a fantastic experience with Jackie - Archie absolutely loved his stay. Jackie made the whole process very easy from start to finish and I felt very confidence throughout that Archie was in capable hands and having a great time. Would not hesitate to use again!
I can recommend Jackie highly, she responded quickly and worked with me to sort out logistics of the sit with Ted a rescue Bichon. She met with Ted and struck up a rapport easily, was knowledgable on behaviours , I had a meeting to go too and felt he was in good hands. When I came back Ted had been out for a walk and was very relaxed having exercise and play with Jackie. Jackie is a good choice to safeguard your pet when you need that extra bit of support

I own my own flat in and upper conversion of a house so it is very spacy. I have an enclosed private garden to let your dog out to do it's business but will mostly be taking them out a walk for this. I have lots of dog toys for mental enrichment and hypoallergenic/orthopaedic dog beds and I am happy for your pet to make themselves comfortable on the furniture if they are usually allowed at home (after I have cleaned their mucky paws!)
Home
Information Jackie B. would like to know about your pet
Temperament, exercise requirements, dietary requirements, medical requirements, whether or not they are friendly with other dogs. Any special commands they know. How is their recall, if they are allowed off the leash or not. I am happy with any size and any breed of dog but I have personally only owned large breeds!
A typical day
I prefer going to country parks as the walks are longer and more varied. If a dog is ball/toy orientated I will play fetch with them to maintain their interest. I usually go to glennifer braes country park which is 5 minutes from my house and often go through to Prestwick to the beach where they can have a swim if they like the water! I also love hiking and camping and I usually do this by myself with a dog!
