Pet care experience
I grew up in a family that trained K-9 police dogs for the city of Boston and have loved animal care ever since. The K-9 dogs would begin their training as puppies and go through an intense vetting process that took over 1.5 years before they could be certified to work with a handler. I learned to understand the subtleties of dog behavior and temperment. When I was 16 I began volunteering at the veterinary clinic in Milton, MA caring for dogs, cats, hamsters, horses, and everything in between - I continued to volunteer at the vet clinic through my undergraduate studies. My love for animals pushed me to pursue a graduate degree in marine biology where I study marine mammals and have learned veterinary techniques for treating injured seals and sea lions. I love animals of all shapes, sizes, and dispositions but because I am a student, it isn't possible for me to have my own pet at the moment. I'd love to take care of your pet in the meantime!

Jack stayed with our critters for a week. It was a big job with 4 animals, but he pulled it off without a hitch. Our dogs and cats adore him, and he's excellent about giving us updates. Jack went above and beyond with our babies, and we'll definitely be booking him again!! Our home was clean and tidy when we returned, and our pets were healthy and happy. Thank you, Jack!!!
My dog absolutely loves Jack! Our two-year old black lab is a bit of drama queen and we have had trouble finding reliable dog-sitters in the past. Right from the start, Jack showed that he was very capable with handling energetic and needy animals, and he has been the first person we call whenever we are going out of town ever since. Our pup gets so excited when he sees Jack and we know that he's well taken care of. He sends plenty of pictures and answers our questions right away. Highly recommend Jack for anyone with an animal that needs some special attention!
Jack has taken my Bernese Mountain Dog, Talulah, on walks regularly for about 6 months now. He is always polite, on time, and lets us know how she did on her walk. Tal has really grown fond of him too - she knows it play time when he shows up! Jack has done some overnights for us on holidays too, when it's just too difficult to try to travel with Tal. As much as we miss her when we are away, we know she is in good hands with Jack watching over her.
I have two small dogs and one old cat that Jack has watched half a dozen times in the last couple of years at our home. Jack was very responsive and was quick to send pictures whenever we asked how our animals were doing! He has worked with a lot of different animals and it shows - our two dogs are a bit skittish but during our Meet and Greet, Jack approached them perfectly and they warmed right up to him! Even our grumpy old cat seemed to take a liking to him! I would recommend Jack to anyone that needs an attentive and caring pet-sitter.

I enjoy taking care of all pets of all temperaments. But it is important to know what your animal prefers, and what they are used to, in order to give it appropriate care and attention. Some cats can be affectionate and love to play, while others prefer not to be pet or handled. Some dogs can be sneaky and get into mischief if a watchful eye isn't kept, while others will lounge about until its time to get some exercise or chow. Any information you provide is useful, but most important to me is to understand your animal's temperament, including likes and dislikes, common behaviors or issues, and social abilities. If I understand their temperament I can provide the care that they need.
A typical day
The typical day is tailored to what your pet prefers! Is your dog high-energy and social? We could go to local dog parks so they can play with other animals or we can go to the local dog-friendly beaches. Is your dog not comfortable around a lot of other dogs? No worries, a quiet walk through the woods, or along the beach, or in their neighborhood is a perfect way to make sure your pet gets the exercise it needs without giving it undue stress. The typical day is tailored to the individual pet and is designed with input from the owner about what their animal prefers.

Availability
My primary obligations are completing my research which involves working on my laptop. Luckily, I can do this from anywhere! My schedule is wide open and flexible - I have a desk in Moss Landing, CA but I regularly work from my apartment in Marina, CA. I would be happy to take a break from my laptop screen to walk your pup or feed and play with your cats!
