Pet care experience

Hi all! My name is Shelley, and I am staying at Madison for law school. Most of my availability is on Fridays and weekends, but I am flexible, so please reach out! I travel mostly by walking or bus. My current dog is very fearful and reactive. Because of this, most of my time with my dog involves training him and understanding his behavior. Though I am by no means a certified dog trainer, I ALWAYS use force free training methods when working with any dog and have a basic understanding of positive, negative, and stress dog behavior. With your permission, I can apply this same knowledge to your dog, teaching them basic commands and tricks and helping them on walks if they, too, are reactive.

My shihtzu Jay Jay absolutely loves Shelley! She cares for him almost as if it’s her dog. Jay is an apartment dog so when I leave, Shelley makes sure he gets lots of play time, he is safe, and he is well groomed. I live a busy lifestyle, so I am not able to read up on everything that I need to care for Jay, but Shelley is very knowledgeable in training, discipline, and behavior practices to which she has given many helpful recommendations. I would highly suggest Shelley as a dog sitter.

Information Ives "Shelley" C. would like to know about your pet

I do not have any breed preferences, but, along with physical health problems, I would like to know of any behavioral problems your dog has, such as: Does your dog have separation anxiety? Does your dog guard food or humans? Is your dog reactive to other dogs and people? Is this reactivity friendly-frustrated or aggressive? Do they have any phobias, like noise phobias? Do they like to be handled a certain way? The following questions are examples of other quirks I'd like to know about your dog: Is your dog high-energy? Does your dog pull on walks? Is it easy to get your dog's attention? What are their favorite and least favorite things? Do they have any dietary restrictions or preferred treats?

A typical day

Wherever the pet parent wants, within my maximum travel distance! We can go your dog's regular route or switch it up and check out a different neighborhood. If your dog is on a flea/tick preventative, we can do some light hiking on nearby trails. At home, we can play fetch or tug. I can also provide mental enrichment for your dog with treat toys/puzzles and teaching them basic commands like "sit" or "down" and fun tricks like "shake" and "high five!". If your dog is dog-friendly, we can talk about your dog getting to meet my dog on a walk or a controlled setting. And of course, lots of loving attention and pets!
