Experienced sitter/foster volunteer
Pet care experience
Dog Fostering (13 months): - In 2020/2021, I was a dog foster volunteer for a local animal foster/rescue organization. During this time, I fostered and provided care for 6 dogs rescued from hoarding/abandonment situations. - By providing a healthy home environment and routinely allocating time to work on behavioral issues through consistent training exercises (leash walking, crate training, potty training, obedience commands, etc), I was able to reduce/eliminate problematic behaviors and encourage normalization/socialization, which contributed to their successful adoptions. - Of the dogs I fostered, two were senior dogs with impaired mobility due to paralysis, and two were hoarding situation dogs with extreme behavior problems. Extensive clinical/volunteer experience as a pre-vet student (~3 years): - I accrued 300+ volunteer hours working with dogs/cats in various vet clinics/hospitals, ASPCA, and animal rescue organizations. - I acquired 2 semesters of mentored clinical experience, receiving formal training from a licensed veterinarian, for academic credit (i.e., in a strictly graded/performance-evaluated environment). I was trained to perform tasks similar in complexity to vet technicians’ responsibilities (e.g. physical examinations, administering oral/injected medications, parasitic diagnostic lab testing, assisting with neuter/spay surgeries and dental cleaning, surgical procedure anesthesia monitoring, assisted xray diagnostic imaging, owner-requested euthanasia). Miscellaneous animal care professional experience (~2 years): - Job responsibilities while employed as a research associate at an academic research lab at the U included routine management of the team’s mouse colony population.
Reviews
Irene took great care of our Frenchie. She helped keep us informed while we were away with messages and pics, and she asked us questions when she needed clarification on our dog’s needs. Irene was very thorough with us and helped put us at ease when we booked a semi last minute trip out of town. And we came home and picked him up, we were happy knowing we did indeed leave him in her wonderfully capable and caring hands.
Irene was great with Mocha. Super responsive and kept me updated throughout Mocha's stay. Mocha is usually shy and quickly opened up to her and her dog, Jax. I would totally recommend her.
Exceptional boarder! We were nervous to leave our little Lily for the first time but we’re pleasantly surprised and will definitely use her again. New favorite dog sitter!
We had the BEST experience with Irene and would recommend her to anyone. She was caring, thoughtful, and so accommodating and understanding to our changing schedule. She sent me so many videos and photos, our Leo seemed right at home with her and we will definitely be using her again.

Safety, trust & environment
- I have a small fenced backyard, although I don't leave dogs I'm taking care of in the backyard unattended. Whenever I am outside with your dog (excluding my backyard), I am actively engaged/focused on their safety, maintaining control with a leash and harness at all times. - While I am home, dogs are never left unsupervised to wander around the house, and I make sure to maintain visibility of them. - If there are multiple dogs in close proximity that have not had prior interactions, I make gradual introductions between unfamiliar dogs, remove possible sources for contention (I.e., food/treats sitting out, toys, etc.), and supervise all play/interaction while they are adjusting to each other. - If I need to leave home while your dog is under my care, I never leave them unattended for a period of more than several hours (or less depending on the individual dog's needs). During this time, I always crate them for their safety.

Temperament/energy level needs, feeding/walking morning and nighttime routines, crate/bed preferences, behaviors to expect, people/dogs interaction preferences, play/activity/exercise preferences for moderate-high energy dogs, any other possible concerns
A typical day
Your dog will receive a minimum of 3 walks per day, the duration of which will vary depending on your dog's temperament and energy level needs. I like walking dogs I watch as well as my dog around the local neighborhood as well as nearby parks. On weekends and during some lighter workdays I take my dog on short hikes (1-3 hours round trip, various locations throughout the valley), which I will bring your dog on if they enjoy hiking activities. If your dog is trained off-leash and enjoys outdoor activities, my dog enjoys playing fetch and other games involving a ball, so I generally spend time every day playing and doing these activities.

Availability
I work full-time, with a WFH, or 100% remote schedule. My weekday routine consists of 1-2 walks between meetings during the workday, in addition to morning and evening walks. During the week, I generally take the dogs on walks in my neighborhood, with occasional longer walks at different dog friendly parks. On weekends/holidays (weather permitting), I frequent places like Wheeler Farm, Memory Grove Park, and Tanner dog park. Alternatively, I’ll opt for taking the dogs on a shorter (1-3 mile) hike nearby.
