One pet at a time- individual care

Pet care experience

Proudly serving the wonderful animals of the Upper East Side of Manhattan exclusively. I have lived, cared and trained cats and dogs for many years. We adopted our current cat at the age of 9 from a shelter in 2014 and she's still going strong with daily medical attention! We adopted a troubled leash-reactive rescue dog aged 5 from a kill shelter and worked with Kate's Canines to train us to train her to make her the perfect pup. My current clients range from 9 months to 18 years, and from 4 to 100 lbs! I look after all kinds of dogs. I specialize in dogs with reactiveness, leash pulling and many other conditions. "I love working with animals and giving them the focus and attention they deserve. I hope to have the pleasure of meeting your pets and provide you with the comfort they are well taken care of." "Every walk is a new adventure for a dog and I go out of my way to make it as interesting and stimulating for them as possible. When looking after cats, there is more to just feeding and watering them: they crave our attention and love to interact with toys. I have cats performing rewarding tricks in minutes!" "One of my proudest achievements was being selected by Lenox Hill Hospital as the top person on Rover to look after service dogs when patients are sick. I bring care and comfort to them knowing that their beloved companions are well looked after and exercised while they receive treatment. It also provides an opportunity for these hard-working dogs to relax in stressful situations." "In my spare time, I like to watch animal training videos: especially Lucky Dog, Zak George, and Jackson Galaxy. I am currently reading Lucky Dog Lessons and Zak George's Guide to a Well-Behaved Dog."

I'm a multiple-times repeat pet-parent for Ian who always goes above and beyond. The last time he visited my two cats while I was away, was no exception - for feeding, care and playtime for over 3 weeks . He's super reliable, very communicative and truly enjoys being with the cats. They love him too!

Ian always does a fantastic job with our cat Ravioli. Ian is diligent about taking care of him and even doing his medical treatment, and always sends us photos and updates. Ravioli loves seeing him while we’re away. Thank you Ian!

A friend recommended Rover when they found out I was looking for a pet sitter. I spent a few days reading reviews for pet sitters in my area and came across Ian. The reviews that people had left for Ian were just beautiful so I took a chance booking my first pet sitting with Rover. The experience was seamless but what really gave me peace of mind was Ian. He is AMAZING an incredibly caring human being and best of all great with pets, just as described. My dog Lena is very skittish and she took to Ian immediately. Ian took her on long walks, spent time with her, loved on her and best of all sent me updates and pictures on a daily basis. What more could you ask for?

This was the 4th or 5th time we’ve booked Ian to apartment/dog sit for us, and it’s always been a pleasure. Ian has a great rapport with our sometimes shy pup, and has a real knack for managing (and even improving) his on-leash reactivity. We’re always very grateful for his frequent, friendly communications and photo updates; and also for the respectful courtesy with which he treats our home/belongings, never failing to ensure that the place is spotless upon our return. Leaving a pet behind while traveling abroad can be stressful, and Ian does a tremendous job of mitigating that anxiety—you really can’t put a price on peace of mind, so we look forward to continuing to hire Ian whenever we have occasion.

Safety, trust & environment

I am the former safety manager for a tech company. I managed the first-aid training staff and am trained in human & pet first aid, CPR, and blood bourne pathogens. At home, I build trust with our cat and dog using positive reinforcement to let them know their boundaries and who this pack's leader is. When working with animals, I am always vigilant of our environment and anticipate the unexpected.

Information Ian T. would like to know about your pet

For dogs: 1. Any health conditions or behaviors I need to be aware of. 2. How is your dog around other dogs. 3. Level or training your dog has received so we can work together at the right pace. 4. If allowed, what type of treats your dog likes will help bond during walks. For cats: 1. Any health conditions or behaviors I need to be aware of. 2. How is your cat around strangers. 3. Are the cat's nails regularly clipped. 4. Favorite hiding places.

A typical day

Living on the UES with a wealth of parks on our doorstep, we often go to Carl Shurz, Central and John Jay Park to exercise, explore and find new smells. We practice proper leash control on the sidewalks to ensure safety and long loose leashes in open park spaces when safe to do so. While walking, we train with basic everyday commands like "sit" at stoplights, "stay" while we clean up, and "leave it" when we need to.
