Pet care experience
Proudly serving the wonderful animals of the Upper East Side of Manhattan exclusively. I have lived, cared and trained cats and dogs for many years. We adopted our current cat at the age of 9 from a shelter in 2014 and she's still going strong with daily medical attention! We adopted a troubled leash-reactive rescue dog aged 5 from a kill shelter and worked with Kate's Canines to train us to train her to make her the perfect pup. My current clients range from 3 months to 18 years, and from 4 to 100 lbs! I look after all kinds of cats and dogs. I specialize in dogs with reactiveness, leash pulling, and many other conditions. "I love working with animals and giving them the focus and attention they deserve. I hope to have the pleasure of meeting your pets and providing you with the comfort that they are well taken care of." "Every walk is a new adventure for a dog and I go out of my way to make it as interesting and stimulating for them as possible. When looking after cats, there is more to just feeding and watering them: they crave our attention and love to interact with toys. I have cats performing rewarding tricks in minutes!" "One of my proudest achievements was being selected by Lenox Hill Hospital as their go-to person to look after patient's service dogs. I bring care and comfort to them knowing that their beloved companions are well looked after and exercised while they receive treatment. It also provides an opportunity for these hard-working dogs to relax in stressful situations." "In my spare time, I like to watch animal training videos: especially Lucky Dog, Zak George, and Jackson Galaxy. I am currently reading Lucky Dog Lessons and Zak George's Guide to a Well-Behaved Dog."
Reviews

Ian is our go to dog sitter - we always trust him with our pup! He's very communicative, sends pictures, and understands dogs well. I would recommend him to anyone!

Ian did a great job! He was consistent with sending us updates and lots of photos. We came back from our vacation to a very happy cat!

I cannot speak highly enough of Ian, who has truly been transformative in supporting my and my pup’s routine. I am EXTREMELY selective about who I let care for and walk my dog - right now, Ian’s on (I should say, the *top* of) an extremely short list. I have no stress or concern, as I know that Ian prioritizes safety above all, and his training/behavior knowledge is a huge added bonus in putting me at ease. And of course, I always know that Phoebe will have a great time, as Ian takes care to ensure Phoebe has the opportunity to explore and play (even getting creative as needed when the weather doesn’t cooperate). Our routine really has taken a 180 turn for the better since connecting with Ian for Phoebe’s walks.

Ian was great with our cats. This is the first time he was caring for them. They are extremely shy with new people and they seemed to have really warmed to Ian. Ian was very communicative with us and made us feel at ease. Will definitely rely on Ian again when we next need to travel.

Safety, trust & environment
I am the former safety manager for a tech company. I managed the first-aid training staff and am trained in human & pet first aid, CPR, and blood bourne pathogens. At home, I build trust with our cat and dog using positive reinforcement to let them know their boundaries and who this pack's leader is. When working with animals, I am always vigilant of our environment and anticipate the unexpected.
Information Ian T. would like to know about your pet
For dogs: 1. Any health conditions or behaviors I need to be aware of. 2. How is your dog around other dogs. 3. Level or training your dog has received so we can work together at the right pace. 4. If allowed, what type of treats your dog likes will help bond during walks. For cats: 1. Any health conditions or behaviors I need to be aware of. 2. How is your cat around strangers. 3. Are the cat's nails regularly clipped. 4. Favorite hiding places.
A typical day
Living on the UES with a wealth of parks on our doorstep, we often go to Carl Shurz, Central and John Jay Park to exercise, explore and find new smells. We practice proper leash control on the sidewalks to ensure safety and long loose leashes in open park spaces when safe to do so. While walking, we train with basic everyday commands like "sit" at stoplights, "stay" while we clean up, and "leave it" when we need to.
