Pet care experience
Ground level, cozy condo in NE DC with a back deck and small yard welcomes your dog! I'm a former veterinary technician (Atlas Vet) and now a grad student in Anthrozoology (the study of human-animal relationships). Puppers are allowed full access to all parts of the home and are even allowed on the furniture (if you permit it). The neighborhood is filled with children so I prefer dogs that are friendly and unafraid of children. There are lots of toys and bones readily available in the house, but feel free to bring your pet's favorite. I also accommodate beds and crates if your dog prefers. Your dog will enjoy at least two walks per day (morning and evening) and as much time in the yard as they want weather permitting. I WFH and school is distance learning so I'm home the majority of the time to dole out gobs of affection, belly rubs, butt scratches, playtime and yard/porch time (weather permitting). I even have a dog door so they are able to go in and out at their leisure when I'm here. Occasional outings could include trips to one of the many local dog parks, Kingman Island, or the National Arboretum. My steadfast pack leader Ernie, who was with me for 12 incredible years, sadly passed away (at age 15!) in January 2023 leaving me with no pets of my own. However, I want to be sure that everyone is comfortable, so for NEW guests I require a 20 minute meet and greet in my home at least several days prior to the stay. This will allow me to get to know you and your dog a bit and for you to see the space where they will be staying while you are away. I understand that occasionally people need to book last minute and I will do my best to accommodate last minute bookings but PLEASE try to book in advance. Home boarding is not the same as a kennel. I get many requests for last minute bookings and many of them I have to turn down because there is no time for a meet and greet. Additionally, RETURN CLIENTS if you would like to make a reservation, but my calendar will not let you, please reach out to me to see if an arrangement can be made. This is it also the case around the holidays when demand is higher. PLEASE NOTE: I do NOT accept unneutered or unspayed dogs except for puppies under 6 months. ALSO, I do tend to watch several dogs at once. I limit the number of NEW guests to two (2) and RETURN guests to three (3). The MAXIMUM number of guests at any given time will be five (5). NEW GUESTS MUST BOOK A MINIMUM THREE NIGHT STAY. (This is to preserve the amount of time that I spend on meet and greets). Finally, I have reliable transportation and Atlas Vet is only a few blocks away. I have used Friendship Animal Hospital and/or VEG for emergencies in the past. I look forward to meeting you and your pup(s)!
Reviews
Holly is a God send. She feels like family & like our dog Floyd is getting to go to summer camp. Adore her.
Holly took great care of my dog who has an auto-immune disorder, separation anxiety and leash reactivity. To say he’s a handful is an understatement. My dog thoroughly enjoyed his time with Holly as evidenced by how relaxed and calm he was when I picked him up from a 2-week stay. Holly’s past experience as a vet tech and ongoing veterinary training make her an ideal dogsitter.
Every time our dog Rosie stays with Holly she has a great time!
Holly is amazing - she has a true gift with dogs. Left my greyhound LeeLou with her for 8 days and she had a great time and was very well cared for. She clearly adores Holly!

Even though I have a small yard and a dog door, I closely monitor dogs when they are outside. When the weather is temperate, I generally join them outside and we'll often pile in the daybed on the porch. Additionally, as a former vet tech, I have a lot of experience treating small injuries and recognizing illness and more serious conditions. I am well stocked with things like chlorhexidine, ear cleaner, anti-bac/anti-fungal treatments, pepcid, nail clippers, regular clippers (for wounds), and lots more. I can even trim your dog's nails at your request if they will tolerate it!
Home
Information Holly G. would like to know about your pet
All guests must be spayed or neutered NO EXCEPTIONS (except for young puppies). Also, because I often have more than one dog guest at a time, it's critical to know if your dog has any quirks around other dogs or does not enjoy being around other dogs. If you take your dog to any kind of daycare facility, and they do well there, they will do well here. If you have any concerns about this, let's discuss.
A typical day
Primarily walks, but we often go on other outings to wooded areas with water where the dogs can run, sniff and swim. There are also LOADS of toys, chews and balls so there is never a shortage of things to play with. I often engage in fetch or tug of war with a guest dog! Tons of treats too - if they sit!

Availability
I WFH PT and am in school PT (distance learning) so I'm home most of the day every day with the occasional outing for errands or leisure activities.
