Pet care experience

I am a full-time, student-athlete rower who grew up with 2 dogs while taking care of neighbor’s, friend’s and family’s dogs and cats. I have taken care of a range of animals from puppies, old cats to 100lb dogs. For high energy dogs I am able to run 5+ miles with them if needed. For older cats and dogs I am able to give them all the attention needed with light walks and plenty of scratches. I have experience bathing nervous dogs as well as keeping animals calm during nerve-racking storms. Many of my friends and family call me the pet whisperer since most dogs and cats love me from first encounter. I’ve also been told I am very a caring, loving person- I would love to show you and your fur babies these traits when I take care of them.

Helaina was wonderful with Cobh! He went with her happily and she sent photos throughout the day. Drop off was easy as was parking and the location was perfect,.. charming side street. Will definitely reach out again when we return to Boston.

Helaina was so such an awesome pet sitter! She was fast in communication, flexible and so good with our dog Bear! Would definitely book again - thank you!

Helaina is simply phenomenal with all dogs big and small. I particularly love her enthusiasm and attention to detail which makes me feel safe leaving my beloved lab Sandy in her care. I have known Helaina for 5+ years now- she is super friendly, extremely responsible, and most importantly loving. Helaina is and will continue to be my first choice any time I need someone to care for Sandy because my dog loves her and I guarantee your dog will too!

This greatly depends on the pet, not every pet is the same and each deserves individualized treatment. In general if it’s a young puppy, I would take them out for walks once an hour to get their energy out, and especially around feeding time to give them plenty of opportunity to go to the bathroom. If it’s an older pup, depending on how active they are- I take them for slow walks and give them plenty of attention in general. For cats, head scratches and litter box cleanings are a given, but if your cat is especially cuddly then cuddles and back scratches are in order. If they get the zoomies then playing with anything stringy or feathery is sure to get their energy out.

All basic habits are important to know- their feeding schedule, food amount, walking/potty schedule, any medication need or unique behaviors I should be aware of.

A typical day

A typical day starts with an early morning walk for a bathroom opportunity. A bit after being fed (timing usually depends on the size of the dog) we’ll go for another longer walk for another bathroom opportunity and for some exercise. During the afternoon heat, we’ll likely stay inside (and off hot concrete) and play tug of war, or relax depending on the dog’s preference. Similarly as the morning, after dinner is another walk for a bathroom break and to get a bit more exercise before the end of the day. For cats, as mentioned before ensuring they’re fed and the litter box is clean is a given. Cuddling with head scratches and playtime with their favorite toys whenever they show willingness to play or get the zoomies, is a typical day.
