EVERY THING WE DO IS TRAINING!

Pet care experience

YUP! Whether I am visiting with your pet or they are visiting with me, when they are in my care, EVERYTHING WE DO IS TRAINING! Between the physical exercise I will provide, cuddles & playtimes, your pet and I will work on basic commands, new tricks, and other mentally stimulating activities (I provide puzzles and a variety of other activates of your dog’s choosing). Every door we pass through is a sit-and-wait, to improve impulse control & focus their energy. Your dog’s time with me, and your money, will be spent on improving your dog’s manners and skill set, as I reenforce positive behavior and provide them with the mental stimulation they need to keep them from being destructive, board, anxious, etc. I am also experienced in training packs of dogs to respond to commands individually for multi-dog households. I am a professional dog handler/trainer. I have been providing exceptional care for pets (mostly dogs) on-and-off throughout my career. Since my first position as a kennel tech for a dog training company, contracted to train the Los Angeles Port Police dogs, I knew I had found my passion more than 20 years ago. I continued to follow my love for pets through freelance dog/puppy training, volunteering for nonprofits, and managing several full-service dog and pet resorts; including a brand local to St. Louis, MO, where the seven resorts would bring in 80-145 dogs per day, each. I have decided to turn my natural talents as a dog whisperer, and my professional experience as dog handler, into my own full-time business, doing what makes me happy by caring the pet(s) that make you happy!

Heather was amazing with our dog, Mochi! This was our first time leaving Mochi with someone so we were a bit nervous, but Heather sent us updates and pictures throughout the day. She also gave us some tips for treats and nailcare when we picked Mochi up, which was super helpful for first-time dog owners like us. I highly recommend Heather to anyone needing dog care and wanting someone they can trust!

I highly recommend Heather. I had the great pleasure of working alongside her for the past year, with her as my mentor. She has been caring for and training dogs for over two decades and it is beyond apparent with the knowledge and skills that she possesses. The passion and dedication that she has for working with dogs shines through with every thing that she does. Her teachings have not only been invaluable to me, but to every dog and person that she has ever worked with. She is well-versed in dog body language, specific dog breed needs, and proper care. Her training techniques have been the only ones that I've found to truly work. I've seen her work miracles and in turn, she's helped me and others to also do the same. Hiring Heather to care for your dog will be the best decision you will ever make, not only for your pup, but for you as well.

Heather is one of the many dog professionals I've met, but she is the one that I would trust with any dog I love. She is a kind hearted and strong woman that can easily win over any pup. She knows exactly how to read them and how to communicate with them. Having the chance to work with her and see her in action has been an amazing experience, she really is the best person to train, care for, and handle anyones fur baby!

Safety, trust & environment

Whether your fur-baby is in my home, your home, or a pet resort, their safety and wellbeing is my top priority! When I walk dogs, I use a 2-part leash system to ensure a failsafe slip-lead in case the dog slips its collar or harness during the walk. All pets in my care are either under my direct supervision, or safely secured in an appropriate and comfortable enclosure. All pets in my care have access to fresh water at their disposal – including if kenneled. All of my pet-care equipment is in good repair and most of my equipment is professional grade, ordered from a popular police K9 equipment reseller. These are just a few of the many steps I take to ensure the comfort and safety of your fur-baby, and your peace of mind.

Information Heather S. would like to know about your pet

I have put together a short questioner form based on my experience managing pet resorts - which covers all aspects of your pet care needs. This ensures that I ask all of the right questions and notate all information about your pet(s) and their individual needs. It also helps to ensure the pet parent does not forget to tell me something that may be just part of the day-to-day routine, but potentially very important.

A typical day

Mental exercise for dogs is equally as important as physical exercise and PLAY TIME! I like to provide a balance between all three, with rest time in between. I usually start each session with physical exercise (typically a fast paced, lightly structured walk/jog) so the pup can “get its wiggles out," followed by a rest period and a water break. After the body is inline, next we work on mental simulation. These activities and length of each mental simulation session can vary widely from dog-to-dog based on interest, skill level, and age. After a successful mental stimulation session, it is important to always end on a positive note, a free-form play session is in order for being SUCH a good dog!
