Heather K's Petsitting

Pet care experience

Hello! My name is Heather Konopski and I've just recently graduated from the U of W with a degree in forestry. Sadly, no jobs in my field are hiring until spring so why not do something I love until then? Dogs have been an important part of my life since I got my first puppy at 9, however I've had various other pets including newts, hamsters, and a bearded dragon, since I was 5. I also have experience looking after fish, rabbits, guinea pigs and horses so I'm sort of a jack of all trades. While I currently don't own any pets, I help out with caring for the two resident dogs; my parents own a Bichon Frise who is a cheeky monkey that is excitable and loves to be chased, and my sister owns a Cadoodle who is the exact opposite. I also frequently visit a friend who has a large lab that's friendly, drools, and is convinced he is a lapdog despite being the size of a small horse. My first dog suffered from pancreatitis and other chronic health problems so I'm used to getting dogs to take their medications in various forms, cleaning up accidents, preparing special food and broths, and giving baths. Of the current two dogs I live with, one has small dog syndrome (aggression issues with oddly specific toys, barks at everything, sometimes bites) and needs to be exercised twice as much as the other dog or else his compulsive behaviors get a tad unmanageable so I'm used to watching for cues to see how he's doing energy-wise. The other dog is a rescue Cadoodle who is for the most part the most chill dog I know, however he has a habit of marking in the house so I'm also accustomed to frequent pee clean-ups. When looking after your dog, their day starts with breakfast at their usual time, followed by a walk (the length depends on the weather and the dog), then it's back home where muddy paws are washed and then I do human things and whatever the dog wants to (be it playing or napping) until lunchtime. After that the dog(s) go either out for a run in the backyard or for a shorter walk if the backyard is too small, then wash the paws, and back inside. More human things and dog things. then dinnertime. After that it's gentle play time and winding down before bed, then one last trip outside before bed. That's my schedule anyway; obviously I can accommodate your dog's usual routine. I do have a vehicle so if needed I can drive Fido to the vet or the park. NOTE: At my house I do not have any pet rodents, it wouldn't let me complete the section without checking something off. We do however have wild rabbits, voles, squirrels, and the occasional groundhog living in the backyard, so plenty of fun things for your dog to sniff for!
