Pet care experience

Check out Facebook @ Heather Feeney's Colorful Companions, for videos, and pictures of all the wonderful companions I currently provide services for!!! There are more reviews provided from repeat clients here as well. I also have experience as a Pack Leader for a dog daycare and boarding. I have experience with 15-20 dogs at one time! I truly enjoy what I do and am doing what I love that will hopefully blossom into doing in home behavior consults or training. I currently provide services in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. I have pet-sitter/dog walking insurance as well. I am also currently Pet First Aid and CPR qualified (for dogs, cats, and birds). I have several other skills that I have learned over the years and taken through my coursework on Pet Sitters International (PSI). I’m currently working on completing my masters course for Aggressive Dogs. I will be working on next obtaining my CBCC-KA. Please check my photos for up-to-date training. If you cannot request me through Rover for a service that I am unavailable for, please reach out to me directly from the contact information listed on my business card in the photos. I provide services for dogs, cats, small animals, fish, birds, farm animals, and many more! With prior work and experiences at a dog daycare/boarding facility, I have gained more knowledge and experience with multiple dogs as I run my own full-time pet care service! Upon request, I also can provide more information about my services or dogs or cats as well as for animals other than dogs or cats. When working with you and your animal companions you will always get photo updates, report cards, and safety as a priority! Here is some information about my background with animal companions: I grew up with dogs (small, medium, and LARGE), cats, birds, small companion animals, fish, and horses over the years. I have had my companion animals as well to care for over the past 30 years! I enjoy focusing on the research behind animal husbandry and learning from my animal counterparts. I research to ensure the proper diet, enrichment, and needs of each animal are met. I would love to sit for dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles, and farm companions. I will provide services for dogs, cats, fish, birds, reptiles, and several farm animal companions as well. My special skills include being able to train or handle puppies, birds, fish (yes you read that right), and more! I can provide certain medical requests (such as oral medication or injections). I am very active so I can provide exercise with your companion upon request! I enjoy using the principles of behavior analysis to work with my companions. I love researching as much as I possibly can on our wonderful, colorful, and lovable companions that my brain can allow me to!

My fur babies had another great visit with Heather. Each visit warming up to her more. Thanks again Heather, until next time.

Another fabulous sitting job by Heather. She goes the extra mile to try and play/socialize with my skiddish, shy kitties, always letting them take the lead. The daily updates and photos really make time away more enjoyable. Heather is definitely the person you want caring for your pets when you can’t. Thanks again Heather

Heather watched our two cats, including one that needs meds twice a day. She provided very detailed updates and photos from her visits, and we felt confident that our kitties were in good hands while we were away! We will definitely plan on using Heather again in the future.

Safety, trust & environment

When caring for a client’s animal companion in their homes, I always make sure to conduct a consultation (meet and greet) so that I am introduced to the companions before providing services. This allows a bond to form between your animal companions and me while you are present. This ensures that your animal companions feel safe and secure with someone they are familiar with while I am in their home. This is used to establish what boundaries and needs your animal companion needs from me while you are away. Safety is the most important aspect of my job for your animal companions and myself. It makes for a better experience for everyone. Remember: Always have a Meet & Greet before you confirm a booking to ensure everyone—both humans and animal companions—get along well. Only accept bookings that you feel good about. Drop-in requests are available to do before I provide the house-sitting services as well (with the standard drop-in rate request through the Rover App) so that we can ensure that everyone has a safe experience when I am staying in a home to provide services while you are away. All services are base rates. For any drop-in service requests, I try and ask that I also be able to meet your animal companion I will be providing care for. I will ensure to ask questions before any services are provided about ANY animal companion. Drop-in rates are listed per visit. Dog walking is the dog walking rate. However, for 30 minute dog walking requests I will walk for 30-40 minutes. 60 minutes is subject to an additional fee (listed under the services tab).

Information Heather F. would like to know about your pet

Let me know if your animal companion(s) has any special needs or requirements ahead of time and I most likely can meet you and ensure that I understand what is needed. I can conduct telephone or video consultations. However, it is preferred I also conduct a meet and greet, in person, before sitting any animal. This helps to ensure that the pet is not in “shock”, anxious, or fearful when meeting me if his/her pet parents left for an extended period. I also like to send a meet and greet checklist prior to my visit with your animal companion so you know what to expect and what questions I like to ask. These can include: Medical, Allergies, & Health Information: • What vet should I go to for an emergency & what emergency contacts do you have outside of yourself? • Any medical conditions or any medications/supplements? Any allergies? Behavior & Training • How are they with other dogs or cats and/or children? • Is there a favorite toy or game your companion enjoys? • Do they get anxious, scared, or worried when left alone? • Are they an escape artist? • Are they protective or guard their food or toys? • Does the pet steal food from or jump on counters and tables? • Is your companion house trained? • Do accidents occur when they are anxious, nervous, or excited? • Does your companion act differently around new spaces or people? • Are there any behaviors that your companion does that concern you I should know? Routine: • What do they usually eat? • What is their potty break or litter cleaning schedule? • Do they get regular play time or walks? • Are treats or special rewards expected at certain times?

A typical day

Getting outdoors is the best enrichment for many animal companions! There are a few special places I do like to go for walks, such as the airline trail, Thompson damn, and many other trails around the area of Thompson/Putnam/North Grosvenordale, and Woodstock. I also like to research new trails and parks in the surrounding areas to walk/hike with your pets. Any other requested areas work well. I try to refrain from dog parks for safety reasons for both your animal companion and other animal companions. I also like to provide training or enrichment opportunities for every animal companion, if possible. This helps maintain or mold behaviors that can provide safe interactions within the animal companion’s environment. If a client is okay with me providing training or working with their animal companion in such ways I will do it! There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to each animal companion! This goes for dogs, cats, birds, and big or small animals as well! There are so many ways I can provide activities for your animal companions to engage them. If you have any special requests I am willing to provide them with further discussion.

I am veteran that now is working as a pet-care professional and sitter. I enjoy working with your dogs, cats, fish, birds, and farm companions while giving them the best exercise or enrichment they need. My passion for animals goes back to my childhood and wanting to be an animal behaviorist. I have always felt a deep connection and passion for being in a world alongside animal companions. Currently, I care for three parrots, tons of fish, and a puppy companion of my own! I can be flexible and work with you given enough notice and communication is key when caring for any animal companion. No need to worry about my time management have the support to make my schedule possible to care for your animal companions while you are away! ****NOTE: My scheduling is schedule block-based. I know that a lot of you work on providing daily routine times for feeding/potty which is greatly appreciated. However, I do at times have multiple clients whom I provide services for daily. This means I will do my best to be there for the times you requested or within the time blocks I currently have if it is available.**** Getting to experience care routines with everyone’s pets also is a plus! It helps me gain experience and knowledge on the behavior and husbandry of animals. This is becoming my main career working with animals. Look no further for your long-term professional sitter!
