Patient, compassionate, experienced

Pet care experience

I have over 10 years of experience caring for animals in various settings including but not limited to: animal care tech at a shelter, vet assistant in a veterinary office, dog/cat trainer at a shelter and for private lessons, dog walker, house sitter. I am comfortable with many types of animals including dogs, cats, birds, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and fish. I keep up-to-date on new methods and science in animal behavior and always go with minimally invasive techniques. I am patient, compassionate, and knowledgeable. I currently instruct a work readiness program through the Department of Rehabilitation Services for adults with learning disabilities who want to work in animal welfare. We cover many topics including anatomy, medication, basic care, handling, and more. I am certified in Dog & Cat CPR and First Aid.

Heather is a compassionate and knowledgeable pet caregiver who has excelled working with anxious animals. Anyone would be fortunate to have their dog on her watch.

Heather is very knowledgeable in training and behavior as well as in veterinary medicine. She brings years of experience as a vet tech, trainer, and animal welfare and shelter work. Heather is dependable and trustworthy. Heather and I work together teaching special needs college students vocational skills in animal-related fields. I bring my dogs to class to demonstrate and I trust Heather implicitly with them. We are both trainers that believe strongly in science-based training, reinforcing desired behaviors, and using our skills to obtain desired behaviors without stress or coercion. Knowing Heather, this philosophy would filter naturally into dog walking and petsitting, regardless of not actually formally training anything. Helping animals live as stress free as possible is a passion of Heather’s. I’m picky about who I let care for my animals, and I’d be lucky to have Heather watch them if I went away. You won’t find many on Rover that can match the skills that Heather can provide. Having someone who understands behavior and training, as well as being able to recognize and act if medical issues arise, is invaluable.
