Vet tech, hiker, and dog sports!

Pet care experience

After graduating from UC Berkeley, I worked as a veterinary technician for 4 years and I will soon be attended veterinary school. I have experience working with senior and special needs animals and I am comfortable giving any kind of medication to dogs or cats. I also can provide basic first aid. I have boxers - so I am very much aware of the special needs of brachycephalic (smushy-faced) breeds! I am an experienced dog handler in competitive dog sports. I actively compete with my boxers in AKC conformation, agility, obedience, and scent work. Dog training and behavior is something I am passionate about - I am particularly comfortable at working with shy and fearful dogs. Additionally, I have experience working with leash-reactive/barrier reactive/dog-aggressive dogs as well. I also have experience with handling puppies! I only use positive reinforcement methods. I am an avid hiker and I love to hike and explore all over the East Bay with my dogs! If your dog is dog-friendly I would love to take them out with my pack or, if not, I am more than happy to do solo walks and hikes with your pup! Hikes are typically 1-3 hours depending on you pup's needs.

AMAZING. She still has my dog, but I just couldn't wait to review her, and I will again! As soon as she met my not-so-little McNaab Boxer mix, my girl barked at her and Hayley asked me if she liked turkey, I said yes, and she pulled out a bag of treats that my Moxie just loved. Oh, and she crouched down so she wasn't threatening to my pup. 10 minutes later, Moxie was just fine and comfortable. Hayley is very patient and very good with dogs, it is definitely her calling. She has sent me many updates, pictures, and she even worked on some training with her! She took moxie and her dogs for walks and hikes, and overall gave my girl a great day, so great I asked if she could sleep over and do it again! You won't regret Hayley!

Hayley really is terrific with dogs, and more importantly, one of the few people I know who I trust to care for my Labrador as I do. She’s a great dog sitter and trainer and extremely knowledgeable about all things dog—both physical and psychological aspects. In particular, her interest in and practice of non-aggressive/positive reinforcement techniques makes it easy for all dogs to feel comfortable, happy and (most importantly) safe being with her and listening to her commands. If you get a chance, don’t pass up the opportunity to meet her own dogs—you’ll see what I mean.

You can feel totally safe leaving your beloved pet with Hayley. The love and affection she has for pets is obvious; yet, she has a strong presence - dogs love her and respect her. (If your beloved has a bad habit like jumping up on people, they wont be doing it with Hayley). Hayley has years of Vet Tech experience which makes me feel at ease knowing she can handle minor emergencies or recognize when to take the pet to a hospital. Hayley has raised and trained pets through all life stages. I can tell you she is awesome and will light up your pet's day ( and maybe yours too!).

No preferences or restrictions for home-visits or solo walks. If a dog is staying with me, in my home, they must be dog-friendly. Every dog is individual, and I make it my business to cater to their particular needs. You can facilitate this by informing me about your dog’s routines, trainings, socialization, medical needs, play preferences, and any other info you think I’ll need.

Our home and yard may be on the small size, but we maximize our space and we spend most of our time out and about anyway! I know all the best spots in the area for walking and playing. We are surrounded by hills and the hiking opportunities are endless! We are in west Oakland, tucked away off the street. We have a quiet, stress-free home with a yard for easy potty breaks and a place to stretch out and play with toys. I like to start each morning with a good walk. Walks are either done solo or in a pack depending on the individual's needs. Then later in the afternoon, typically a bigger outing is planned. I am an avid hiker and explorer and I like to take the dogs all over! In between outings, I have two dogs at home who love to play. Downtime is often spent playing, napping, lounging in the sun in the backyard, cuddling on the couch, playing with toys... I am home all day with the pups so there will be constant supervision. My household consists of me, Nate (my significant other), Billie Jean (6 year old boxer), Paxton (7 month old boxer), Lilian (8 year old kitty), and Jack (7 year old kitty). Nate works a normal 9-5 job and is around in the mornings and evenings. He loves all furry pets and is the "fun dad". He plays with the dogs and cats and gives plenty of cuddles. The kitties mostly stay to themselves - they have their own "kitty only" area away from the dogs when they need their alone time. Billie Jean is sweet and mellow. She loves all dogs big and small. She is the perfect age where she can keep up with puppies and can also slow down with the seniors. Paxton is a puppy and if he can he will play all day long. He is learning his manners and can be very respectful of other dogs' space when need be too.
