Compassionate, trustworthy and punctual individual

Pet care experience

Fully insured and canine first aid trained (with some transferable skills to cats). With several years of experience working part-time at a dog parlour, as well as engaging in dog walking and cat sitting, I have developed my skills as an understanding and patient caregiver for your beloved pets. Additionally, my hands-on work experience at a veterinary clinic gives me a good understanding of how to maintain the well-being of your pets. My background in animal care covers a diverse range of animals, from small pets to farm animals. Since I was a young child I have helped on farms with a range of livestock including sheep, cows, pigs, alpacas, goats and donkeys. These experiences enable me to skilfully handle the various behavioural patterns seen by different animals. Moreover, my own history of owning dogs, cats, and small animals equips me with the experience necessary to manage multiple pets at the same time. My late cats lived to 22 years old so I am also aware of the patience that must be had when looking after older animals! Moreover, I recently completed some online courses with the University of Edinburgh on 'Animal Behaviour and Welfare' and 'The Truth about Cats and Dogs', these course covered the following areas: 'The Appliance of Science, Ethology, Sense and Sensibility, Living with Humans, Improving Pets Quality of Life, Aggression in Dogs, Dog and Cat Genetics and Small Animals complexities'. I also completed an online course with Duke University on 'Dog Emotion and Cognition'. The information learnt in these courses helps me to understand your pets behaviour, why they may be acting in a certain way and how I can keep pets calm and happy whilst you are away. Of course, each animal is different though and each animal needs to be treated as an individual :) Furthermore, I've worked in multiple hospitality industries where I've been given the responsibility of key holder and arranging bookings, which shows that I am a diligent and trustworthy individual.

My dog loved Hannah staying with her while we were away on holiday. Hannah sent us lots of pictures of my dog and updated us on how she was doing throughout the week. I highly recommend Hannah if you want a dog sitter !

Hannah looked after our Border Terrier over New Year for five days. We were kept updated with lots of photos and messages and could see that she was happy with Hannah. We came home to a lovely clean and tidy house and a happy and relaxed dog. Would totally recommend Hannah and will be using her again!.

Safety, trust & environment

When looking after your pet, I will be vigilant in checking that your pets are always safe. Whilst dog walking I will be constantly monitoring the environment to check for potential hazards, and beforehand will familiarise myself with your dogs temperament, any special needs or triggers, and your own instructions. When pet-sitting/carrying out drop-ins, I will ensure a safe and comfortable environment is maintained for your pets and will alert you to an unusual behaviours displayed. I always ensure that communication with the owners is regular and informative so that you have peace of mind whilst you are away. This also helps me to understand the expectations, routines, and the unique needs of your pets.

Information Hannah O. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if your pet has any medical/behavioural needs that I need to account for. In addition, it is good for me to know what your pet understands in terms of commands and discipline to ensure that communication between me and your pet is clear and straightforward. With my experience of working at the dog parlour, I have learnt how to handle puppies/senior dogs/dogs with health difficulties, and pick up on each individual dogs cues and behaviours that they display. It is also useful to know the pets normal routines so that I can keep them as settled as possible whilst you are away :)

A typical day

I will enjoy keeping your pets happy whilst you are away. Whether that's taking them to the beach, going on woodlands walks or playing with enriching toys. I have no problem driving your dog to a new, exciting place whilst they are in my company to ensure they have the best time! Furthermore, if there is a certain dog park that your dog is used to visiting I will happily take them there to ensure that their routine is maintained and they are visiting a known area. I will also tailor each session to your dogs needs, whether they suffer from separation anxiety/need medication/need to recover from an operation.

I currently only work alternate Saturdays at the dog parlour, meaning that I could give your pets lots of attention whilst you are away, and would be able to stay with your pet 24/7 if needed. If the pet-sitting falls on the date that I am due to be at the dog parlour I am still able to drop-in on your pet multiple times a day. I will always try to be as flexible as possible with my schedule to fit around you and your pets needs!
