Let Me Be Your Pet Sitting Neighbor
Pet care experience
I love animals of all shapes and sizes, and I've had pets my entire life. As a child, I helped care for our families pets as part of my chores. Then, as an adult, I've always had a house full of cats and dogs. I began my pet sitting journey when some retired friends asked me to look after their cats (in their home) while they traveled. This became a regular "gig" for a number of years. Eventually, the word got out and other friends, neighbors, and co-workers hired me to look after their pets. When I heard about Rover, it seemed like a perfect fit. Since then I've been able to expand my list of regular clients. It's been a great way to connect with new clients! Most pets feel more comfortable in their own homes, so I visit a few times a day to feed them, walk or scoop out their litter box, and spend some time playing or petting them. (The number of visits is up to the client). I do not have formal training, but I do have lots of hands on experience with dogs, cats, fish, and small mammals (hamsters, guinea pigs, and rabbits). We had horses and chicken when I was a kid, so I'm technically experienced-- but it's been a number of years since I've taken care of either. I do not have medical or veterinarian experience, but if you provide detailed instructions I will make sure that your pets receive any prescribed medication. I have given medication to my own pets and a few client's pets over the years (usually pills mixed in food). I'm okay with caring for larger breed dogs, so long as they aren't too strong willed. I'm not a particularly large or strong woman, so I need to be able to control the animal. I will provide your pets with loving, patient care. As I've told past clients, it usually takes me about 5 seconds to fall in love with a new animal. I'll care for them as if they were my own. If you have any additional questions, feel free to email me. I'm currently working part time, so I have plenty of wiggle room in my schedule. I'll update my schedule weekly to show when I'm available. For me, it comes down to the animal's personality and what is best for them. With drop-in visits, I'll visit your home to care for your pets (1-3 visits per day). In addition to the basic stuff (feeding, giving them fresh water, and potty breaks for dogs/scooping cat boxes) I'll spend time with your animals. I'll make sure they get plenty of snuggles and/or play time (it's up to them!). With dog walks, I'll walk your dog in your neighborhood. (Most dogs are more comfortable in a familiar environment). When we return home, I'll make sure that they've got fresh food and water and spend some time playing or cuddling them-- it's up to them!

I'll ask questions about the dog's personality. For drop-in visits, I want to make sure that the dog won't be aggressive towards a stranger in their home. I'll also ask about medical issues, medication, or any special needs. Basically, I'll ask questions to make sure that the visit is as safe and comfortable for all of the animals present as possible.
A typical day
When I visit pets in their own homes, I always begin each visit by greeting them, talking gently, and petting them. I find that most of them get lonely after being home alone for a few hours, so providing them with attention and affection is just as important. Next I'll take dogs outside to potty (or for a walk-- depending on the owner's preference). I'll then feed the animals. If I'm looking after cats, I'll scoop out their litter box(es) while they eating. Some clients ask me to do additional tasks (for example: getting the mail/newspaper, water plants, etc). I'm happy to help, so please let me know if there are any other tasks you'd like me to do while I'm there. Once the pets have had a chance to eat, I'll hang out for a little while. It really depends on the pet. Some like to play, others want snuggles. I'll do my best to make them feel safe and loved. This helps prevent pet anxiety when they're left at home. Most clients request 30 minute visits, but clients can also request a full hour. It depends on the needs of the animals and the request of their owner(s).
