Passionate animal lover ready to go

Pet care experience

Ever since I was little, I have had a strong passion and love for all animals. In 2004, I was given my very first pet, a betta fish named Glacier. Since then, I have been involved in animal and pet care in various capacities. In 2007, my family welcomed our very first dog named Jacques and our second dog named Emmy in 2011. In 2015, we welcomed my grandpa’s dog Nikki into the family. I have been involved in every aspect of their care from taking them to the vet to feeding them. Growing up, my neighbors had cats and I was given the opportunity to feed them and empty their litter box when they were on a vacation. In terms of senior care, I have given shot injections to an old diabetic cat and have given various medications to the now geriartric Jacques and Emmy. They require medication twice a day and have food allergies. I have experience with special needs and senior animals. In high school, I volunteered for a zoo and helped with animal care. I have walked and fed alpacas and socialized baby penguins. When I went to college, I majored in fish and wildlife which gives me an innate understanding of animals and their behavior. During my undergraduate career, I volunteered at an animal shelter for native wildlife. Some of these animals included baby birds and raccoons. I prepared food, cleaned the enclosure, bathed the animals, created enrichment and administered medication if needed. In my graduate career, I helped teach an animal science course which involved caring for domestic livestock. I taught undergraduate students how to properly handle and groom livestock and what to feed them. During my time in graduate school, my brother and his wife rescued two cats. I have taken care of them on numerous occasions when my brother and his wife were on vacation. In October 2020, I rescued my own dog named Cashew and have been showering him with love since. He is a 10 pound chihuahua mix. Due to Cashew’s anxiety before vet visits, I have experience squirting medicine (e.g. gabapentin) into a dog’s mouth. He also has food allergies. In addition to caring for both exotic and local animals, I have a strong background in animal behavior and welfare. I have taken both undergraduate and graduate level animal behavior and welfare courses. When I was an undergraduate, I studied the behavior and welfare of captive Asian elephants in a zoo. Currently, I am working towards a graduate degree in animal behavior. My background in animal behavior and welfare help provide me with an understanding of the best ways to care for an animal. I plan to use my animal behavior background and animal care experience in providing the best experience for your furry friend. Also, I am allergic to cats, so no cat requests please.

Hanna abandoned our house sitting job shortly after we left and did not tell anyone. Hanna left the front door wide open shortly after she arrived and went to her car to get her suitcase. Hanna left the back door unlocked, left the dogs free in the house (uncrated) and never communicated with us (after hours of pleading messages) whether she had given the dog his medications. Hanna only responded that she had left the job after I grew suspicious, checked my video doorbell and saw her dragging her suitcase out more than an hour earlier, and after I began messaging and calling. I grew suspicious because when I asked how things were going and how the first dose of medication went and she did not respond for 45 minutes. Initially I worried my dogs were in the suitcase! ***** We hired Hanna after a meet and greet in mid April for a 45 hour stay in mid May for us to attend a wedding. The meet and greet was long and detailed. Hanna was fastidious. It was so long in fact that we forgot to mention the neighborhood semi feral cat that we let into the garage overnight. Hanna’s bio described in detail her animal science experience, even including teaching animal science classes while a graduate student (she said at Davis). Her bio also included experience with cats, dogs, and in giving oral medications. Between the meet and greet and when she arrived we had two changes in our pet situation. We explained the changes to Hanna when she arrived. 1. The cat was now living in a catio in the backyard due to her age. We asked Hanna to put a can of cat food in once a day and to move her into the garage at night (this was optional). 2. The medication protocol for one dog increased from 3 to 8 doses (arranged as 2 doses 8am, 10am, 8pm, 10pm) of liquids per day. I suggested she text or FaceTime me at any time if she had any questions. While I understand Hanna may not have appreciated the extra work. Bottom line is that she said okay, watched us leave and then simply walked out the door not telling anyone. This caused A LOT of stress and my husband had to return home arriving at 1:30am to give medications and ultimately hand off to another dog sitter. He missed work and had to drive an extra 6+ hours. Thankfully we hadn’t gotten on a plane. This was a very bad experience.

Hanna was so great with Mars! She took him on a long and fun walk and worked on his training with him, in addition to keeping him company and feeding him. She was punctual and very kind to him and us. Hanna has such a wonderful heart, will definitely seek her help again

Short Version: Hanna is fantastic! She is so thoughtful and was a natural with my 7 month old puppy. I will 100% rebook with her next time my husband and I have an event Long Version: Meet and Greet: This is my first time needing to use and using Rover. I didn’t know what the expect with the meet and greet, but Hanna came prepared. She asked us a lot of thoughtful questions and made me feel confident that she would be an awesome fit come the day of Before House Sitting: My schedule changed and I had to tweak some things around. I was able to message her and she was understanding and flexible House Sitting: We left that morning without any worries. Knowing our pup was in good hands felt so great. She took so many pictures and gave us timely updates. Once we got home, our puppy was all smiles and continued to play with her and didn’t want her to leave (she loves her! Lol) Hanna is communicative, thoughtful, and a natural. I’m so glad to have met her and will definitely book her again

I have chihuahua mix named Cashew who is low energy and gets along with other low energy older small dogs. Cashew sleeps most of the time and is a lover of bacon treats. Cashew is a rescue dog and he has a history of fear aggression due to previous abuse. He is treat motivated and I used that to have him socialize with us and other people. He is now a very happy dog and now actively seeks out pets whenever we go to the dog park! I always keep dogs on-leash due to California leash laws. I am currently living in an apartment on the third floor. Due to my lease, I am not able to board and watch any dogs in my apartment. However, I am more than happy to house-sit, dog-walk and do drop-in visits. I am also a 20 minute walk away from a dog park. Around 6:00 PM everyday, there is a small dog group that meets up at this dog park. The other owners and small dogs are all friendly and welcoming. Cashew and I both enjoy going to this group everyday.

Information Hanna H. would like to know about your pet

Please let me know if your dog has any special needs or behavioral triggers that I can account for. I would also appreciate knowing if the dog has any food allergies and/or medications that need to be taken. I would like to know whether the dog knows any commands. I would like to know whether the dog is house trained (prefers crates, beds). I would also like to know the schedule of going out and feeding.

A typical day

I love to stimulate dogs both physically and mentally. Since I cannot board and watch dogs at my apartment, I plan to use your local resources (e.g. dog toys, enclosed yards, dog parks). I can also reinforce any tricks and training as requested. I am fortunate enough to know the location of many parks including several dog parks. From my apartment, I am a 5 minute walk away from a small park and a 20 minute walk away from a dog park. We can walk to that dog park and explore other parks. In addition to playing with toys, reinforcing training and walking to the dog park, I can aslo cuddle your furry friends. I can also bathe and brush reasonably behaved dogs.
