Experienced kennel handler

Pet care experience

Since I was 17 I have worked at a boarding kennel, taking care of hundreds if not a thousand dogs in my 4 years there. Often times I would be responsible for 40-70 dogs and cats, as well as a team of kennel attendants, and a few times I managed on my own. I have seen and dealt with every problem a pet could have away from their owners, from anxiety and aggression to serious illness. I have taken care of pets of every age and disability, including seniors and puppies. In all my years I have never been bit, and pride myself with maintaining a calm and careful demeanor to sooth pets. I was also raised taking care of my own anxious dog who struggled to interact with any other animal or person, so I am very familiar with how to handle a scared animal. Big dogs are no problem for me, I have handled every breed of dog over 100 lbs, and even two at a time. I could go on forever with my experience as a handler, but it was the best job I've ever had and I would be delighted to bring that enthusiasm to your pets life.

Haley B is a pleasant, conscientious, and trustworthy person who has provided excellent care on multiple occasions for our large, strong dog. She exhibited genuine interest and warmth and performed all the activities we requested while away for several days. Would definitely recommend her to anyone.

Haley bates has been responsible for dog walking and house sitting for me for about 8 years. She is very responsible and is always on time. She loves dogs, has a natural ability to connect with them and treats them as if they were her own. I dont trust my dog with very many people but I have the utmost trust in her. My dog is always so happy to see her as she showers him with attention and love. She’s worked for a dog boarding facility so has hands on experience and is able to handle dogs of all sizes. I highly recommend Miss Bates!

I will try to ask thorough questions to the client before handling their dog, especially if I will be in their home. Lots of pets feel protective of their home, so I plan on meeting the pet with the owner before entering their home, this way the pet sees that I am not a threat. If the pet is to feel aggressive or afraid of me when I go to care for them in their home, I plan on giving the pet space and allow them to adjust to my presence before touching/handling them. I am also open to any uses of commands or training methods to give the pet some structure.

Information Haley B. would like to know about your pet

I would need to know if a pet is territorial or reaction in any way. Specifically, if they have any anxiety with other people, animals, children, and especially if they don't like men, so I can keep their distance in public. An aggression towards men is VERY common amongst dogs, especially if they are not neutered/spayed. I would also like to know if they have any disabilities or health conditions to watch out for. And I would prefer to know if they have commands they respond to so I know how to get their attention.

A typical day

I love the fenced in areas of central park because it allows pets to have free and expressive time. I am also a frequent guest of the dog park on riverside and 71st, where there are always friendly and respectful pets and owners. I especially love to chase pets around and get all of their energy out. At my kennel job, dogs would almost always prefer being chased around than being thrown a toy, I think it's because its more engaging and real for them.
