"DOG" Is My Native Language!

Pet care experience

I've, truly, never met a dog that didn't love me, and vice versa. My first dog, Patty, was a stray my big brother brought home, and he, my sister, and I, hid her upstairs, afraid our parents wouldn't let us keep her. She was quickly discovered as she escaped and ran wildly through the house with the three of us chasing her. She was our puppy, and that was the beginning of my love affair with animals. A known pet whisperer and rescuer, strangers would knock on our door when I was growing up, ask if I was home, then hand me a kitty or puppy in need, saying that they had heard I would take care of it. And I always did. I was blessed with compassionate, pet loving parents who knew the value that animals can add to a family, in helping children learn responsibility, patience and empathy, and to know what it feels like to have unconditional love. I carried that tradition on when rearing my own children on five, wooded acres in Oldham County. At one glorious point in time, we had rescued 5 dogs, 5 cats and added 2 baby pygmy goats to our menagerie. We even added a 6th dog, when actress Jennifer Lawrence's mom, Karen, needed to rehome her son's large Dalmation Boxer mix, when he moved to Chicago. Karen said she had pondered over the best home for the pooch, and thought, "If I was a dog, who would I want to live with? Greylyn! She's the best pet mama in the world!" It won me over immediately. All of our extended fur family were always happy, healthy and loved completely. The vet would come to our home, lining up 10 or more sets of shots on the kitchen table when it was vaccination time. We, also, initiated a rotating reward system that we refered to as"Dog of the Day", so that each pup could get extra special treatment on at least one day of the week. Although they all may have some similar characteristics, every dog has its own unique personality. I've dealt with every imaginable idiosyncrasie, and I celebrate the differences. I'm firm enough to help train them, fun enough to play and romp, and free enough to cuddle with them on furniture.

I had never been away from my beloved fella for more than a day and could not bear the thought of him in a kennel. I could not have possibly found a better caretaker for him for the 9 days I was away than Greylyn. She sent constant updates and photos, and I honestly never once had a worry about him. I would recommend her highly to anyone who gets a little extra anxious about leaving their furbabies. She went above and beyond! Five big bright shining stars for professionalism and also for her, just as a human being.

What a wonderful find! I felt so comfortable leaving my babies in Greylyn's care. She spoiled my pups much more than I do, feeding them hamburger (with my permission and blessing of course). I would highly recommend her take care of anyone's beloved pets!

Information Greylyn G. would like to know about your pet

Dogs thrive on consistency, so I'd like to know their schedule to allow their lives to remain as normal as possible. Please make me aware if your dog has any dietary restrictions, because I always have special treats on hand for rewards, if so allowed. How does your pup relate to other dogs? Cats? Just let me know if they have any specific issues around feeding, anxiety triggers, or anything about your pup to allow them to feel like part of the family. I do, always, seperate dogs at feeding time so as to prevent any issues that might arise. If your babies have any terms other than the basics(sit, stay) just let me know so I can communicate with them effectively. I have extensive experience with dogs of all varied stages of life, health and special needs, and am happy to differentiate and accomodate each one individually. Yes, they are all of the same species, and, different breeds share similarities. But, I have never met two that were alike. As it is with people, each one is unique, with their own specific needs and idiosyncrasies, and I really love discovering who they are. The more I know, the more I can ensure your dog feels comfortable, safe and secure when they're at my home or when you're away from yours. Again, make sure all of your dog's Vet and Emergency Contact info is up to date in the Rover Profile.

A typical day

If your dog is active, and wants to have fun, then we'll get them singing and dancing and put them in a show. If they're getting older and just want to chill and fall asleep in the audience, I'll make sure they have the best seat in the house. The young, and, the aging ,sometimes make a mess, in one way or another. It's part of the cycle. It can be hard, but we do it because we love them. Some dogs love to play fetch(mine would do it until my arm falls off!) Some wouldn't touch a toy. You can bring their favorites and we always have plenty of extras on hand. A walk around the park or neighborhood always provides a stimulating experience of sights and smells and seems to be a furry favorite. When at home, they can lounge about on the furniture or bed, or floor. When the day is done, if I'm wearing pet hair and drool, and have warm, furry bodies snuggled up next to me, then life is good. Really good. My goal is to ensure its the same for each of them.
