Pet care experience
Hi! I’m Gretta! I’m currently an Animal Care Technician for Gardner Animal Hospital, located in Gardner, KS! I have been volunteering for animal shelters, more specifically the Jefferson City Animal Shelter for several years. Before working for GAH, I worked at Great Plains SPCA, where I received extensive training in animal behavior and basic animal care and husbandry. I have worked with all types of animals- bearded dragons, snakes, hamsters, kittens/cats, and puppies/dogs. I know how to properly feed, medicate, clean environments (litter boxes, kennels, bedding), walk, and most importantly ensure your pet(s) are happy and loved! I have experience with handling shy/fearful animals, “aggressive” dogs, and animals who experience high arousal. I’ve worked alongside professionally trained behavior specialists and know how to work with special needs animals. I love to work on tricks and love to play- be it from wand toys for cats to tug-of-war with the dogs! I’m not afraid of messes either, so a clean home and environment will be guaranteed! Last little tidbit- I LOVE to spoil the cats and dogs I work with! So expect lots of treats and cuddles (only if they’re comfortable with it)!

Caring for feline friends: I ensure all cats or kittens have food, clean water, are medicated if applicable, have a clean place to use the restroom, and provide them with lots of 1:1 time if they’re comfortable with it. Caring for canine friends: I ensure all dogs are taken outside to do their business (I’m not afraid to pick up poop!), clean any areas where messes are made in the home (according to owner’s instructions), are fed, given fresh water, are medicated if applicable, and receive lots of enrichment, which can vary depending on the dog.

I do not discriminate against any age, breed, or temperament of any animal. I have extensive experience working with animals of all temperaments and enjoy getting to know what works best for each kiddo. I would appreciate full transparency regarding your pet(s) behaviors prior to working with them, so I can prepare and adjust my style of care accordingly. :)
A typical day
Enrichment is extremely important for a dog’s health. Depending on the dog, enrichment styles vary. For older dogs or any dog with psychical limitations, play time with toys, short walks, and lots of cuddles is important to me. For high-energy dogs, long walks, puzzle feeders, Kongs, and intense play sessions with toys is important to me.

Availability
I currently work full time 7AM-6PM Wednesday-Saturday, but am free all day Sunday-Tuesday. I would be able to accommodate frequent check-ins during my work week if the home is located near my workplace, or longer stays/walks on my days off.
